Hi there im new at using wordpress. I have set up a new website and just indexed it on google, but the meta description for my website on google search does not show entirely, in fact it included weird text like Log in · Entries RSS · Comments RSS · WordPress.org.

I'm using the colornews theme and my url is :garmentsteamerreviews.org

Meta description : Our garment steamer reviews help you to make informed decisions before making ... Log in · Entries RSS · Comments RSS · WordPress.org.

Is there any way to have the entire meta description of my website to show? (im using yoast seo) and how do i remove that section on? Log in · Entries RSS · Comments RSS · WordPress.org. (i have no idea where it even came from). I have tried to force rewrite titles on the yoast plugin but i'm not sure if that would help.

Go for All in one SEO plugin, it is more helpful than yoast and plus it allows you to add your own description, title and keywords.

I am sure you added meta Description twice. Once in SEO by Yoast and 2nd in the theme. Try to remove one then Fetch your website by using Google webmaster tools.
Google will start showing the meta in search engine results.

Hey man thanks for the reply. I've tried looking around if i added a second meta description but i can't seem to find it even under Settings ->General. Is it possible that my theme (colornews) doesn't have that option?

Also, i noticed that i have duplicate meta tags for certain pages. Why is this happening?

I am using those for my meta tags (found at the bottom of my posts) but the meta tags do not end up in full.

It currently only shows half of my meta description with some weird text on log in, entries, comments.

Are you talking about the product and category pages? They have no meta description set so Google will use something they deem appropriate. The algo is usually very good at that, but apparently it failed this time.

The category meta descriptions are on the category page (when you hit edit), and product pages you can do via templates that are in Yoast SEO's settings.

They are the meta description for my product pages and home page, but not for category pages. My home page meta description doesn't seem to be working even after i entered it into the yoast seo plugin at the SEO -> Titles and Meta portion

The meta description for the other pages (posts) work, just that they are only partially displayed, with weird text behind them

Will activating the 'noodp' meta tags robot option work in this case?

You theme is screwing up google to the point it grabs the content in meta box widget rather than in the meta tag or body of the post to auto generate the search entry. You can remove the meta block, but who knows what google will grab instead of it.

Is it then advisable to have a change of theme? If so, do you have any good ones to recommend? Thank you

I would find a decent paid one. Some of the people writing the free ones have a big eye for pretty and no eye for crawlability. In the past I've used Thesis and Responsive pro and been happy. I only have one wordpress site today. Everything else is hand rolled templates with some php or ssi as needed.

I got sick of fighting wordpress for what should be simple things to do.

Personally, were I building a new blog today, I'd choose blogger. Far easier to get it to look like you want, no crawl issues, no security headache. This assumes you aren't building a splog (spam blog) as that might get shut down. I know... all the cool kids say wordpress... They don't know any better and just go with what the herd chooses.

In all fairness, I looked at your site just now. Xfactor comes to mind. Skip it. Build a site people want to go to. You are just parroting product stats, features, benefits that appear on any site selling the item you have a "review" for.

Now on the other hand if you wrote an actual review. Actual, meaning you bought or acquired the product, held it in your hands, used it and then wrote a review from personal experience some might want to read it. Think about the reviews you appreciate yourself. Are they like the reviews you have on this site? Would you buy from you?

Again, there's not necessarily anything wrong with the theme. It seems to me that some pages just have no meta descriptions on.

And some kids who think they're cool say this exact thing here. WordPress is bad because it's popular, or something along those lines. And it's not uncommon to suggest that you should code your own as if that's a viable option to some random dude on a forum.

If you're going with something like Blogger you can just choose WordPress.com the hosted blogging service. They're secure, and you don't need to mess around with the code. That's the thing you should compare to, not WordPress.org the OS CMS.

Of course you need to know how to use the tool you're using. It's pretty silly to blame the tool for the ineptitude of the users.

Yes an no on blogger = wordpress.com. Both securely hosted yes. You can monetize as the OP has done on his site, no.

My point is that many struggle to do basic things with wordpress that seem to work just fine on other platforms such as blogger and yet they slog along with wordpress because they listen to the masses.

Well, if you want a limited blogging platform you really should just use one. That comparison is apples to oranges. It makes no sense. Of course it's simpler to use a tool that's built for a certain limited purpose, and doesn't have option for everything that a developer somewhere has ever imagined. That's not a strike against either system.

Individual people don't "listen to the masses". That's just completely meaningless. Yes, maybe they heard from a friend or two that there's this system that could work.

And you don't think that a newb coming here and asking what platform to use and having the Wordpress choir start singing it's praises is not an example of individuals listening to the masses?

Well, calling one individual "a choir" pretty much makes my point for me.

Also, I'm often criticizing WordPress. I just happen to dislike claims that are more rooted in ignorance than actual fact. WordPress is an easy system to set up, start with, and even make secure, but it becomes quite hard the moment you need to touch the convoluted mess that's known as the theme engine. There's a steep learning curve, they've just pushed it back a bit.

Try to check your code on your wordpress theme.. The meta description should fall under the header.php.. Check if there are static texts that are written in there..

Did you check if there's something wrong with your theme? Did you even check your HTML source to see if those strings actually are in the meta description?

If you have no meta description Google will use a snippet of text from your page. They might've gotten it totally wrong for some reason. I think that's the most likely explanation, and I've actually checked your meta descriptions unlike some people in this thread.

Google picks whatever it thinks to be more relevant to the page and based on user clicks/popular elements mostly. I consider meta keywords/descriptions to be long dead. Better focus on why the desired content is not highlighted enough
