I need your honest opinion warriors, is my boss being scammed by her SEO?

She's a few thousand dollars in and her SEO does not send a monthly report.
Occasionally he sends her a few links showing that the blogs we sent him were put on high PR sites (4 and above). We get 1 or 2 of these links shown to us each month. When we ask for anything else, he says its not in his policy to show us what he does because he doesn't want to give away his secrets and sources. He says no SEO ever shows their sources on how they generate backlinks

He stated we have Tier 2 and 3 sites out there and he uses software to generate hundreds of backlinks a month to these tier sites. Is this a black hat practice (the part about using software to generate backlinks) ?

As far as results, we do rank in the first 3 pages of google for 2 long tail keywords.

Our stats :

Domain is about 6 months old
Domain authority : 13
Page authority : 27

    She is getting totally ripped off. First of all, any SEO that is doing anything based on PR, you should run away from. Google has not updated the public PR data in 2 years now.

    If she is spending thousands and just getting some shitty tiered linking and a few blog posts, that is terrible.

      She's being scammed big time.

      Otherwise, after a few days, you'd start seeing rank increase... If you were on page 9, you should be at least on page 8... a few more days, you'd be on page 7, then 5, then 2... He could show you that. You could check for yourself.

      Even if you're going after competitive keywords... he/she/it/they should have been able to move you a bit in a few weeks...

        The sites she is competing against are over 4 years old and I am certain they all use SEOs as well. If we are already on page 3 in 6 months, your saying we should have been on page 2 by now?

          There is no way to know that without seeing the actual competition.

          The SEO sucks though just based on what you described.

          I don't know what keywords and what, exactly, you guys hired your SEO to do. So, I can't tell for sure.

          But, I can say that, a few thousand dollars and 3 months with only a handful of keywords to worry about, I get from page 3 to the top of page 1 for the top local keywords in my industries... By top keywords, I mean the most searched ones by people who want to buy what the site sells... city + mortgage broker or city + home insurance...

    Client always have the right to ask how and why SEO person is building links. When it comes to software, i think its crucial to continue with such software type link building method. Ask him for full report or cancel the work. Its about long term work.So, he have to explain in brief how he is working on your project with proper analysis reports for website and keywords.

    The moment the seo provider fails to send report as per the agreement, that's the first signal that you are being ripped off.

    I work at an agency and I can tell you that person is getting scammed big time.We charge about 3000 dollars a month, but even with much smaller budgets, getting those kinds of results is dreadful. Your boss needs to change provider, do some research, or pay more to a better provider if she can.

    The jump from no Seo to begin seod should be obvious after 3 months in terms of traffic.

    * A program to generate hundreds of back links a month? Sounds risky, could just be social book marking, or could be a bot that spams blogs or sets up bad fly by the night ones to link to you, and that's black hat.


    Doing SEO on a site that is 6 month old is hard enough as it is... It is often theorized sites younger then 6 months have a type of "hold-back" in google search pages.


    I would not expect to rank well until about 6 months of seo work, if your not a natural ranker.


    Are they doing any on site seo? Or is it all link building?

    It's definitely not something that Google likes to see, but it's hard to say wether it's a problem. If the SEO is not being careful that's potentially a huge red mark for your site. Even though their crap links go to some not as crappy properties Google is probably able to see through that.

    Do you have a backlink checker? Ahrefs and Majestic may allow you to test theirs for your own site. They're not even nearly real time, but you get a bit better understanding of what's happening.

    You should really get a report. This is a must. They do not have to disclose all of the link sources, but they do have to say what they're been supposedly doing.

    Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
