The New Google Search Engine - How do you think it will affect us all?

Here's an interesting article on the BBC website about the forthcoming new google search engine:

BBC NEWS | Technology | New Google 'puts Bing in shade'

I think my main take on it is that fresh content is the order of the day.

Perhaps some older well established rankings will be adjusted, in favour of newer stuff.

I still think older, well linked stuff should be favoured. But then again, perhaps that isn't fair towards new stuff that wouldn't get a fair chance to rank well.

Now I've confused myself :-)

Anyone care to comment on the article?

Perhaps there will be no noticeable changes, but then again why would Google put so much time and effort into something if there weren't about to be some MAJOR alterations somewhere along the line.

If they are targeting unique content then that's fine by me, I have heard that words-per-link-per-page is going to be a huge incoming factor in the years to come.

Reads like it could have come from Google's PR department, although it was likely a news release from the company mentioned in the first paragraph.

I'm always a little dubious about companies who are claiming huge improvements even though no one will notice the change. Kind of like a laundry soap's 'new and improved' green sparkles instead of the old blue sparkles.

Google's head of Webspam, Matt Cutts, denied that Caffeine was launched in response to competitive search engines.
I'm not sure that's Cutts' actual title. Might a little reporter bias be sneaking in?

I believe Google will still value old authority sites that are seldom updated like reference websites. Existing contents of such sites are typically factuals and hence are not updated too often.

FINALLY! Google will improve in speed and accuracy! From 0.36 seconds to, maybe... 0.31 seconds? A search engine revolution at last!

Lol, it said the "new google" will focus on fresher news and content, meaning online newspapers will be more affected by it. Probably not us. Although I'm pretty certian someone will quickly release the a WSO about "How to get INSANE traffic from news sites, with Google Caffeine".
