It's not completely BS but there's plenty of brand new sites that suddenly appear out of nowhere and don't seem to be effected by it much. Generally these are companies and they get great PR and links from extremely well trafficked sites.

It only seems to greatly effect smaller sites that don't get many high value links. They kind of creep up the ranks for about 6 months.

But then some new company that makes 5 motor remote controlled helicopters comes around and they get insane links from gizmodo and 300 other gadget sites and they're ranked one on all their branded keywords.

I don't personally seem to get effected by it that much but I start with sites that are 50+ pages, these sites are generally hand build in html/css so there's not a bazillion auto generated tag and category pages with little or no content. From experience if you start with a 1 page site and add a page a day it does seem like it takes awhile, I honestly think this has more to do with the size of the site and not the sandbox.

  • try google first brah!

    okay so here's the meaning

According to the theory of the sandbox effect, links which may normally be weighted by Google's ranking algorithm, not least improving the position of a webpage in Google's index, may be subjected to filtering to prevent their having a full impact. Some observations have suggested that two important factors for causing this filter to come into play are the active age of a domain, and the competitiveness of the keywords used in links.
  • Its hard to tell if the sandbox is real or not, it may be that its just too new to get its weight like older ones, or it may be that it really is partly devalued.
  • Whenever you launch a new website based on a new domain, Google Sandbox is believed to happen and is also known as Sandbox effect. However there is no official confirmation yet from Google. It is a time period until which your keyword rankings would be made low which normally extends for a couple of months. This is to ensure the website is not a spam and also to ensure the website is not solely meant for SERP rankings and for generating profit. It is a technique to remove websites introduced through Black Hat SEO practices which involves automatic creation of backlinks in large volumes towards the sites which they want to rank.
  • Sandbox is the stage where you site goes for few hours before get rank in google

  • Google Sandbox refers to a hypothetical mechanism that factors' a website's age into its ranking on popular keywords. The Google Sandbox Theory is used to explain why newly-registered domains or domains with frequent ownership changes rank poorly in Google Search Results Pages (SERPS).Google does not want spam sites to quickly reach the top of the search results.
  • "Sandbox" is mostly an excuse for not ranking. It should not be news to anyone that a new site with weak link profile doesn't rank. That's what you should expect.

Google has a lot of spam controls, and some of these can produce "sandbox-like" effects. This is what Cutts or some other rep has said about this matter.

    • Its not like that, Google sandbox is a kind of filter which filters the new websites which ranks good positions in the SERP instantly.

But many webmaster saying that Google sandbox is a myth.
    • If you imagine that your site is in a sandbox it could be dangerous to your mental health.
  • The Google Sandbox is an alleged filter placed on new websites. The result is that a site does not receive good rankings for its most important keywords and keyword phrases. Even with good content, abundant incoming links and strong Google PageRank, a site is still adversely affected by the Sandbox effect. The Sandbox acts as a de factor probation for sites, possibly to discourage spam sites from rising quickly, getting banned, and repeating the process.
