Are Profile links still effective?

Has anyone recently tried Angela type of profile links? Are they still effective for ranking improvements? They used to work beautifully few years back but some people still claim they are effective for backlinking purposes.

So I would like to know from people who have tried.

Please don't answer theoretically whether they would still work or not. Only answer if you have seen actual results.

What used to work, was to find a site where you could make a profile and then build a link on that site to your profile. This might still work to a certain extent today, but it's tedious, the links are weak, and it's not really a good strategy.

So say find a forum where the profile links were followed, make sure the posts in the forum are also followed. Make an account, make some posts, ask a question about your profile and link to it. Something like "hey I'm having an issue editing <my profile> can somebody help?" Wait a little while, then update your profile to have a link to your site and add some relevant content. Then build some links to the profile.

People usually purchased "backlink packets" that described how to do this, but most forum profiles are all nofollow now and you're really vulnerable to having the admin delete your account. Also the link to your profile will get buried in the forum and will become worthless.

I'm pretty sure this is why people are still confused about profiles to date, as it used to work.

99.99% of the profile link clowns never did that. They bought profile link blast & that was it.

Check the link juice, make it pass the juice to your profile, index and promote it. Most of the time, people tried to set and forget. Do something on your link, help the page. If your profile are all the same content, no quality then it's useless.

It depends on your goals. My moz profile drives like-minded people to my website for example..
And you can diversify your anchor profile easly.

Those links are nofollow, no SEO value.

nofollow does not mean no seo value.

no follow is still counted in the google algo, just in a different way, you simply do not understand multi dimensional calculations.

Google have said they don't count.

        It's complicated. It's multi dimensional.

I actually made a post about the math behind this calculation, it's not as complicated as you think.

The only problem with your formula, is that there should be on IQ test before any one is allowed to reply to that thread ;-)

There's also one thing that makes profile link worthless. The profile pages are inherently weak. Your profile page is not going to be a strong page on a normal forum. Even if the link is "followed" it's not going to help much.

AFAIK Google has also hinted to the direction that they consider forum links to be poor. I suppose this includes both footer and profile links.

Sure. They count those links on multiple levels, for example the link juice that would go to a no follow links just vanishes. It's still part of the calculation: juice divided by total number of links. And yes, Google follows those links and probably stores the info somewhere.

There's just no evidence that nofollow links would actually help your rankings. And this matches the purpose of nofollow, and what Google themselves has to say on the matter.

This is the hypothesis that some people believe in, but I haven't seen convincing evidence of this either. Sure, if you're doing some kind of spam you might want to mind how your backlink profile looks, but Google is getting better and better at this game.

Some sites have way more "followed" links than nofollow. It doesn't seem to matter as long as the links themselves are not spammy.
            Signature
Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

            What's your excuse?

You'll eventually have nofollow links regardless If you personally ever build a link yourself. It happens.

I meant in the bigger picture (overall) because some people think only dofollow links and zero nofollow is the way to go, it is not.

Anyway, have a nice day. Sorry for the mood, very bad day.

They won't be working if you do them on any of the forums that I manage. We now go and post negative one star reviews on the Google + page of the business. We report that they spam and abuse other peoples web properties to get backlinks. We have pissed of a lot of people. A lot of "SEOs" from India have some very angry clients now. But I guess they now know how pissed off forums owners have become with their web properties have been abused to try and get backlinks.

        You know wrong.

No, it won't work to get your site ranking. In theory, doing social media will get you traffic. In practice, as in your particular case, it probably won't.

I say that because of the questions you asked and how you asked.

Social media works on curiosity... and strategy.

Posting crappy content on social media doesn't work. Even if you do it 10 thousand times a second.

I think that no longer works, try to renovate and see more effective way , you can promote your links in different ways that is really picking up in the market right now, but in the end it's still up to you whatever you think is more comfortable with and your expertise that would work
