Hello warriors please help me, i have a site (www.blognifico.com).
And Google doesn't want to use my homepage's meta description that i've put on my yoast seo plugin.
Instead it is using my other posts meta description. How can i tell google to use my desired meta description for my homepage?

Google will use whatever meta description it feels is most relevant.

Match the content on the page to the meta description. Or, the easy way, write a meta description that matches the content on the page.

Make a static page about what wordpresshope is about and it will happen... The way you have it set up, every time you add a post, you change the content of the homepage, Google changes the meta description to match.

To be honest, in most cases you should just leave the meta description blank and let Google pick it. You will get a better CTR.

My bet is your Home page meta description text isn't long enough, Internet Power Users isn't really a description. I'm sure Google aims to fill out the SERP description on the SERPs as much as possible, otherwise the SERPs would look all jumbled up.

    Code:
    <meta name="description" content="Internet Power Users" />
Make a longer meta description or remove the meta description from your HTML source code & Google will usually pull text directly from the webpage text & use that as a SERP description.

I did not even look at it, but yeah a description that short will almost never be used.

He has 2 of them. Here's the 2nd one:
        <meta name="description" content="WordpressHope is devoted to search
engine placement and optimization, Internet marketing,
affiliate programs and wordpress related topics."/>

          Good catch.

Lol, I didn't expect someone to try & use two meta descriptions on a single page. Probably only adding to the Googlebot confusion.

Google most likely will use the first one listed.

Stupid CMS like wordpress can actually generate more than one.

Thing is, one must ask if google looks for a meta description and title
first, then goes from there. If one leaves it out, I can't say for 100%
            that google might fumble around.

Note that's different than google disregarding the meta title in favor
            of something else.

I do believe that google actually tells people to be sure and place
a meta description on each page.

A missing meta description could be lumped in the same category
            as a ridiculous one.

Quality in this case, is not in the eye of the beholder. Google
has a whole guide on doing meta descriptions.

It only does what the webmaster tells it to do, nothing more.

It's not WordPress' fault that some developers don't follow the guidelines on how to display titles and metas. There's the well-documented correct way to do it, and a plethora of wrong ways that you see way too often.

Added: it's not likely that WordPress would come after OP, but he/she is violating their trademarks with that domain name.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.

They might: because it's a bad name WordPress Hope makes you think you're dealing with someone who doesn't know how to spell shop... First thing that crossed my mind:

It's shoppe, if you want to go that way, not shope! And it's missing an S. Should be WordPressShoppe.

  • You probably have conflicting plugins so google is pulling data from the wrong one.

Focus on one description that will represent as a snippet for your site in the search results. Make it interesting for the target audience and this will possibly increase your site's click through rate. The recommended length is 150 to 160 characters.

I looked at his site and it's clear from his header, with the emphasis on "hope," that his intention is to be named "WordPress Hope." Doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but that isn't the real issue. This is:

He really, really should reconsider including "wordpress" as part of his domain name. The WordPress Foundation can and does enforce their trademarks. Couple quotes from the web:

"For various reasons related to our WordPress trademark, we ask if you're going to start a site about WordPress or related to it that you not use "WordPress" in the domain name."

"As a result of Defendants' actions, WPF is entitled to immediate transfer of any domain names incorporating the WordPress Trademarks, including the Infringing Domain Names, in accordance with 15 U.S.C. § 1125(D)(1)(c); and an award of statutory damages of between $1,000 and $100,000 per each of the Infringing Domain Names pursuant to 15 U.S.C. § 1117(d)."

He could keep the name and hope that WordPress doesn't find him or hassle him, but as they say, "Hope Is Not A Plan."
