Two H1 tag on the same page.

hello folks,

Due to my wordpress theme structure i have two H1 tags at the same page. One is from logo,which is initially my brand name and second one is post title.

How do you think is it bad for SEO? or not?

  • Remove the one from your logo. Write good post titles instead (set it to include the brand/site name at the end if your brand is semi well known). The post titles will do more for you SEO wise than a static h1 tag on a logo.

      I agree with most of this however a static <h1> should be included as an alternative SERP title.

      My advice for OP is, one <h1> per each page & use multiple <h2> per page as needed (less is more). Again <h2> can be used as alternative SERP titles. Forget everything else (<h3> through <h6>).

      I've consistently got Google SERP titles to use <h> (heading) text for multiple keywords per page across multiple webpages/keywords.

      Look at the text version of your webpage, that will show you where you've put emphasis on text. Obviously look at the HTML source code as needed.

    • In 99.9999% of cases, it is stupid to have more than one H1 tag. I would remove it and move on.

  • Yes, my thought would be to remove from logo and keep it in title for best link juice to your kw in title.. brand name can be automatically appended to titles (which will become part of your H1 too).

    • If you wrote and printed a book and decided to use h1, h2,3, 4, etc. H1 would be for your Chapter titles, h2 for subchapters, h3 for sections of subchapters...

      If you have more than 1 chapter on a web page, use more than 1 h1.

      Most people only have 1 chapter (if that much) on a web pages so, for most people, 2 h1s make no sense.

      a web page about losing weight could have h1 for Exercises to lose weight, h1 for the part about bariatrics, h1 for the part on the history of dieting from Roman times through the Crusades.

      It would have definitely have more than 500 words.
  • It's quite common for WP themes to have a h1 in the logo/header for the front page, but a well-made theme will switch to a normal page structure on sub pages. I guess the reason for this is the current style of web design: there might not be a place for real h1 on the front page.

    If that (or some other structure/mistake) leads to two h1s you should try to remove one of them.
