Can anyone explain why a large amount of people keep claiming SEO is dead? Is there any Truth or Merritt to this statement? Are search engines trying to destroy SEO in order for PPC to be dominant?

Because they're either clueless or baiting for clicks.

Google search is one of the biggest platforms selling PPC. SEO is just a parasitic phenomenon around this popular service.

    "seo is dead"

around 600 global searches a month at almost $4 dollars CPC rate....

The phrase has (some) marketing value at least according to adwords.

but yeah it's clickbait and people who do cookie cutter seo, fail, and blame it on the death of seo because in their mind they did everything right and so it couldn't possibly be their fault.....:/

Yes. "SEO" is dead. I tell that to every SEO service that calls me on the phone, emails me, or messages me on social media.

Recently somebody came to me and asked if the local "SEO" service they were paying $100 a month for was any good. I tossed their website into ahrefs and guess how many new links the "SEO" service built them... Zero.

I felt bad for the guy so I gave him a followed link on an old site that's about a low PR2. He's rank 1 now.

    Yeah "SEO" is dead.

    Yes, I can.

Half of the people on earth are below average intelligence... That's over 3.5 billion.

Half of those are below average intelligence for stupid people. That's 1.75 billion.

That's a lot of people in that camp.

And, stupid or not, people like to feel important. People feel important when they make statements.

If 1.75 billion people make a statement each every few minutes, you have a lot of stupid statements.

Some of them are about SEO.

Since there are so many stupid-made statements, even a small fraction is a whole big pile.

    And now you know.

I just tried to visualize the earth, with a heat-map of stupid.

I can't even describe how much stupid there is.

It's not a tidal wave, there's more of it then that. It's not a volcano, it's much bigger. There's earth has entire continents of stupid.

      You just blew my mind.

SEO Still live . But users switch to other medias like ppc, paid networks.
Who's want long term ranking, they are still using Orgenic seo techniques.

    • My 2 cents:

As far as Google is alive, SEO is alive too. We can not ignore the issue that many so called Seo experts do not cope with the changes and use the old ways seo techniques and expect a different result.

What's dead is in fact the old school of SEO is dead. the one that people post a few posts and pray for it to be on the first page.

      It's evolving.

Actually the methods people use earlier to build links and getting in top results have been changed totally.
Now SEO has been transformed more into Content Marketing and engagements. Google is ranking pages with relevant and diversified content pages.
SEO is not dead but the methods has been taken a new way of implementations.

If you are thinking SEO is dead, then I would like clear here SEO is not dead but the new rules changed. If you have a website and offering services, then you need to know about the power of search engine optimization, because SEO depends totally on your work and marketing strategy.

          /facepalm.

His website is about content marketing, not SEO.

His course on "SEO" over at quicksprout.com received so many complaints that Neil Patel made it free.

I'm not saying backlinko is bad information but, please explain to me how the skyscraper technique (or any of his other techniques) will help rank my site about products? Ok so I take all of the products and make a giant skyscraper, turn the skyscraper into a giant infographic, then share it on social media, and then do inbound marketing. This helps me how? Wait so adobe photoshop is an SEO tool now? No. It's not. Content marketing rarely works when your site isn't entertainment or gives away information. I don't normally do any of his tactics and I rank sites just fine, with actual SEO, I build followed links.

SEO: you get links from data or acquisition
Content Marketing: you potentially get links from content that you marketed

Edit: Note, if Brian Dean didn't cloud the issue, nobody would go to his site about content marketing. Remember, he's a marketer and he wants money. There's tons of content marketing sites that don't really do all that well traffic-wise. His clever re-branding of content marketing as SEO obviously works for him, but when I do a guest post or email an authority site and say "hey I have a 1200 word high quality article that I will give you as long as you keep the link intact" I don't kid myself for a single second, I marketed a piece of content. The primary goal here is to build awareness about my site and potentially build traffic. Will it have an impact on my rankings if I do it right? Of course. So will getting links from niche directories and asking site owners to include my link in an article they wrote.

I personally hate content marketing but I do it because it works. But there have been times where I sit there thinking "wow it took me 30 hours of time to get a pr3 link, man that was a big waste of time."

You bring up good points. I have been on Brian's list for a couple of years now and always learn something from him. My problem is similar to yours in that I do not always want to do all of the work to get the backlinks in ways he teaches, and writing content can get tiresome.

My main 100% white SEO strategy: I ahrefs my competition or sites that are in the same general niche. Drop the sheet of followed links into excel, start looking for targets to get backlinks. If I find a good target that I can use on multiple sites I save it in a file. Usually good links require opening a communication channel and not filling out a form.

Some site's have a treasure trove of white hat links, I have a few of those sites saved in a folder on my desktop.

I do guest posting and article marketing as well. The kind of article marketing where I build a list of targets, (his strategy on the SEO campaign page is pretty similar) I sort it by whatever BS metric of the month seems popular, lately it's MozRank, then I contact them 1 at a time starting with the highest metric, a few a day until somebody says they will post the article on their site.

I disagree with "SEO is dead". Just because it is not simple as PPC doesn't mean it is overthrown. You don't have to go too far for a proof. Just go to home page of this forum and see for yourself which subforum has the most posts and which forum has the most visitors.

I don't agree that PPC is simple. There might be less parts, but they're all moving parts. If I spend 1k+time to build a site and a year later it didn't work out, I can sell the site on flippa and get my 1k back. Doesn't work like that for PPC.

Marketing is parasitic that way, too.

      So, what?
