Does Server Location Matter for SEO?

Hi folks,

Sorry I should know this but I've been out of the game for a while and just returned.

First Question: So does server location matter in terms of overall SEO benefit? I couldn't find a definitive answer in Google but from my understanding it's all down to page load speed. Is this correct? I would think this is all Google really cares about ultimately.

Second Question: I'm launching a couple of Australian websites and have always hosted with hostgator previously because they are what I know and have used in the past. Should I just stick with them going forward or go with an Australian host? If so, could someone kindly please provide a reputable company with great support. Those are the two main things I'm looking for.

Thanks!

Yes, I believe it's mostly about page loading speed. Actual locations can't be that important today because of CDNs and cloud services.

Do you have any way to measure Hostgator speeds in Australia? I'd suspect that they're pretty good. I would not use Hostgator myself, but I also see no reason to change something that's working.

I'm sure everyone knows it's a bad idea to take any advice from a forum spammer.

Unfortunately the reviews in the hosting industry are almost completely pointless. The review sites are all fueled by affiliate payments, and almost none of the reviews are honest.
