Question About Pagerank and Backlinks

I recently switched the link structure on one of my domains from "http://www.domain.com" to "http://domain.com". I didn't want to have to do this, but it was something that was necessary in light of an issue relating to the site. I have two questions about this.

1. Does my Pagerank start over when I switch from "www.domain.com" to domain.com? One of my pages on the "www.domain.com" had a 4, and I just noticed that it's now a 1 (according to Market Samurai) on "domain.com". Could this be some kind of quick aberration that Google will correct once it fully processes the domain switch, or did I just lose all of my old Pagerank?

2. I have a bunch of backlinks pointing back to "www.domain.com" (most of them natural ones). Are these still worth just as much as they were since the page being indexed by Google now is "domain.com"?

  • Would doing a 301 redirect (I think that is what it is called) help with this situation? I don't know much about that but I have read a few things that would indicate this procedure would restore the rank and make all of the link juice relevant again.
  • Yes, 301 redirect pass rank and link juice! Why don't you do the reverse, redirect www.domain.com to domain.com?
