Directory Websites - Use "brand" domain or "generic"?

This is probably going to sound ridiculous, but here we go....

I realize many people tend to say that a "brand" sounding domain is better than generic but I'm curious if anyone has any opinions of domain names when creating a national directory website for lead generation.

For example:
HomeAdvisor.com (brand)
eLocalRoofers.com (sounds like a brand but also generic term to me)
NationalContractorDirectory.com (brand? generic?)

When the website is a national directory for a specific service (let's say piano moving) - better to do with branded? Generic? Doesn't Matter?
#brand #directory #domain #generic #websites
  • I worked on the development of a few directories, and cannot prove which is better, but I would vote for branded. With social such a big part of everything, spreading a brand this way is more effective.
