You've got as much change to rank as on any new domain. Sub domains do not inherit any link juice from the "parent" domain unless the strong front page links to the new page over a reasonably long period of time. That's not the case with blog services like WordPress.com.

This is BS. Google doesn't seem to have anything against blogs, but they're just websites like anything else out there. You need to build backlinks to have them rank.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

      What's your excuse?

If only more people thought about it with a bit more common sense. Just like when people talk about ranking youtube videos... Like its some kind of way different approach then a regular website..... You do the exact same thing! Build GOOD backlinks and you will be good to go.

          I agree with @nettiapina and @TotalWebsiteControl

I have a couple free blogger blogs that happen to rank really well. Not because Google favors them for being sub blogger blogs, but because I optimized the shiz out of them... and pointed some solid backlinks at them.

There is no preferential treatment. They will require just as much work to rank as an actual blog.

The only reason I have those blogs is because I often test new niches on free platforms, and if they appear worthwhile, I set up new sites with proper domains and paid hosting.

If you know you are going to be building that blog long term, you might as well take total control and just get a proper blog to begin with. SEO wise it won't make a difference!

  • Like everything, it depends on the keyword(s). Stuff I have done has ranked pretty well, and quick with no backlinks.

It's okay to be under that subdomain. Just make sure your keywords are amazingly drawn out from your content.

A wordpress site can be ranked just like any other website. It just takes some time, work, and effort. You would use the same tips and tricks to get ranked for any other website. Just have patience and put that work in. Good luck to you
