Backlinks - How to keep track?

I have an older website that has about 600 backlinks according to yahoo, I want to start building more backlinks but my question is how can I do it so I don't submit to sites it's already been submitted to?
I haven't kept track in the past and for a lot of it I've hired the work out so I really don't know whats what. I don't have time to go thru each one to see what site I'm already on. I've been wanting to hire someone to do more backlinks for me but I'm afraid I'll get penalized or seen as spamming if the url is submitted to the same site.

Any suggestions?

thanks in advance

If you want to track where your links are already, in yahoo site explorer you can export the backlinks URL's to a spreadsheet.

    why need track it?

if the site only allows one time submission, then your next submission will fail. if the site allows multiple submission, then just submit it.

You can Use Google Webmaster tool and Yahoo site explorer to keep track of your backlinks. just remember that every backlink may not show up on these tools and it will take some time before your backlinks are shown there.
