Warriors,

In your experience, what's the quickest free way to get a brand new site indexed AND ranked for your keywords?

Thanks,

grab some backlinks from site which have high authority in Google SERPs.
    1) Youtube (comment)
    2) Yahoo Answer (answer with your link)
    3) Ezinearticles.com (1 article+your link in sig)
    4) Digg+Reddit (works pretty nice for me)
    5) Download.com (if you can put up a freeware of some sort)

Interesting...you think that there is a connection between your putting it in the field and google picking up on it?

Depending on your hosting options, you may have access to web statistics.
In there and again depending on web statistics s/w you may see useful information. For instance, the awstats package has a section called Robots/Spiders visitors which shows the name of the robots/spider (if known), the number of times it visited so far this month and the date/time stamp of the last visit. Robots displayed can include Alexa (IA Archiver), Googlebot and Yahoo Slump.

I guess Talinn reviewed a similar report.

Nice post jeff, however I think we could add to this a little. Firstly when you add your sitemap to google and other search engines then remember that they have 100's of sites so your site will go into a Que. If you limit it to this then you may not find your site indexed until your turn has come up in the que.

I would recommend doing exactly what Jeff has said along with bookmarking your website and submitting your rss feeds to rss feed sites - also add backlinks from other high authority sites.

Just with the bookmarking - rss submissions and backlinks building you should find yoursite indexed very soon. One problem about this is that your site could get sandboxed as your in a probationary period for new domains.

This is where Jeffs methods come into place. By adding your sitemap and using google analytics you are telling google that your site is not a spam site but you care about it. This is what I have learnt with my own experience. I have tested this on many sites.

My problem didnt lie in getting indexed fast but it was in not coming up in the search engines even on very low competition keywords. I then ran a few experiments and learnt that by using both techniques together your site is safer.

If your after quick indexing only then use the bookmarking - rss - and backlink method and you should be indexed within a day or 2.

Another thing which I noticed was that .com domain get indexed quicker then domains such as .info

            cheers

    First Submit to Google

    Keep building links.

This is very important because the only thing that would get you ranked are backlinks. The ways you can build backlinks are:

Go to a dofollow forum (warriorforum is one) (this is important, don't build nofollow backlinks)
Put a link to your site in the signature
    Post like you usually do.

You will get enough backlinks in about a month to get your indexed and ranked high.

My own experiences in this area: I set up a site (Wordpress blog), make 2-3 posts, and 2-3 pages; submit to Google, and bookmark the site in most of the bookmarking sites on SocialMarker.

This way I can see my site indexed on Google within a few days.

thanks guys for the info. is there such thing called minimum content/page before a website will be considered for the ranking?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[1082868].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author Talinn
Stew; yes, I think there is such a limit. Again from my experiences:

I set up a Wordpress blog, added 2 posts (about 300 words each), and 2 pages (contact and about me). I submitted to Google, and a day later I saw Googlebot crawling my site and so I waited for my site to be indexed for a couple of days. When I saw it wasn't; I added another post (600 words), and as soon as Google crawled that post my site was indexed.

Surely it depends on a lot of factors but in my experience yes, there is a minimum amount of content you need to have on your site before it's indexed by Google.

From my own experience I found submitting the sitemap is the best way to get indexed by google. More over yahoo answer really works very well.

This is probably not the answer you want, but here goes anyway...

There is very little point in trying the latest technique to get ranked quickly in Google. Even if you manage it, you won't be on the first page for more than a day.

The only worthwhile technique is to get ranked slowly. Build up your onsite SEO and build up masses of good quality backlinks to your site.

If you want a quick boost of traffic, don't look to Google for that, go to some of these fads like Twitter.

Think longer term for real success.

    Good luck

3stepads, freeadz - make 2 300 word posts with multiple backlinks
RSS Submit (Assuming you did create an XML document)

    - This typically get's me indexed in less than 12 hours.

Ezine articles, Go Articles, Forum posting with back links (wink wink) normally yeilds ranking results very quickly. I've been trying a new formula lately suggested by a member's book and I still think this method is the best...

I think I should qualify my reply, paying $ is definitely the fastest and also one of the most effective

but i know that there are some free and pretty effective ways for search engines to crawl your site too. of course, one absolute no-no is to leave your page as 'under construction' and left there hanging... it'll take ages for you to be indexed!
