Getting sites indexed/ranked?

Hi.

I build websites and am very good at putting together a useful site in a day or so.

I can also take databases and make sites out of them too.

I know how to optimize every tag and every word of the site...

However, the problem is with promoting it to the search engines.

It's not like I need PR7, but what is the best (and cheapest) way to get that first boost?

It is really frustrating...If I had $1000 to spend on press releases, backlinks etc...I think it would be easier.

How about on zero budget though?

I have tried some of the following:

Submitting videos with URL in the description
Social Bookmarking
Blogs for backlinks
etc...

A few of my sites have some success, but I need to know the quickest and least expensive way to get some SEO going.

I've heard reciprocal links are on the outs too...right?

So what to do?
#search engine optimization #indexed or ranked #sites
  • Not to give away the farm here, but doing some blog posts right here in the WF will help tremendously.

  • Well since you seem to know about on-page optimization, you need to focus on off-page optimization (duh!).
Submit your site to some "dofollow" social bookmarking sites, using your keyword/phrase (should also be in your site's title) as anchor.
Write some quality comments on dofollow blogs and link back to your site (use a *slight* variation of your keyphrase as anchor).
..in order to find "dofollow" blogs you can use this site..
IMHO the most important thing is getting backlinks on authority sites that are related to your niche. But remember it's not a sprint, it's a marathon i.e. don't try to get 100's of links a day.. Be patient, just create a good site and develop it. Put some love into it. ..Okay okay, sounds cheesy as hell, but if you really like what you're doing, results (money) will follow.. the interweb's no get-rich-quick type of thing.

    • Make sure to submit at least a few articles to article directories, linking back to your website. Really, the more the better.

Also there are free press release sites. Just Google the phrase "free press release sites" and you will find a whole bunch of them. Submit a few free press releases for more backlinks.

    • Green Corner Directory or a paid Yahoo listing, as well as methods suggested above!
  • cdrom1,

    Similiar to what xga mentions,

    1) Write an article.
    2) Post the article to your site.
    3) Create a link from your home page to the article.
    4) Go to pingomatic and submit that page. Watch how the different search engines scurry over to find out what you just posted. (Notice that I am using pingomatic for static pages - who said you had to use it for blogs only?)

    • Article Marketing definitely works if you write lots of articles (20 or more is good, 50 or more is really good). It can take some time and effort. You should also check out some link building programs (3waylinks, LinkVana, Neurolinker).

Someone on this forum also pointed out that you can create an EXE from an extended article/ebook and submit it to software directories to get lots of backlinks. I think that's a great idea too.

There's a free SEO Guide available at the link in my sig

    • I've used it for my websites, not blogs, but are you saying for internal pages? Good idea, I'll give it a try.
  • Well Instant recognition is always danger friend and Big G will never like it. So just go step by step instead of taking aerial route.

    Best of luck.
