Manually Reaching Out To Aquire Backlinks

Has anyone here successfully reached out to another website owner with the intent to gain a backlink? If so, could you provide me some tips on how to successfully convince them to link to a page on my website? The page has great content and is very resourceful to readers within my niche.

Thank you for any advice and direction,
Minty

    Hey,

It's great to ask this question, but my advice to you, you should just get started. You'll know their reaction when you reach out to them.

Neil patel can show you how to do it
The Link Builder’s Guide to Email Outreach

It's just a simple email, and you can do it in your spare time. Anyway just send it, do it like the guide above, see your result.

    Hope that helps.

If you are doing it by email, you are likely never going to get a response.

If there is a Facebook or Twitter account, try getting in touch with them through there. If there is a phone number listed, pick up the phone and call them.

Email is the least effective way to get links.

I still do it. You need a strategy obviously.

          Same here, email works.

The easiest way to leverage email is targeting other domains that offer some type of advertised support on their own sites. That gets your foot in the door (they'll answer emails), after that talk shop (niche) for a few emails, get to know the other webmaster/s.

Either way I wouldn't waste my time contacting anyone unless I already had something to offer the other webmasters.

Real example, I once traded some laser targeted traffic to one of my competition for a followed link on the competition Home page. That same deal I convinced the competition to setup a 25% affiliate network for the traffic I was sending to their domain.

You never know what folks will give you unless you ask.

I should have explained that more. Email outreach can work, but if all you are doing is the typical "Hey I think I have a great site your readers would like so you should link to it" kind of nonsense, you are not going to get very far, and you will almost never get a response.

You need to be offering something worthwhile.

Yukon's example is a good one.

Another example would be if you identified a problem on their site, like a broken link. Maybe they are linking to some site that no longer exists, but your site would make sense as a substitute.

You either need something in the email that grabs their attention right away or you need to email back and forth a few times with the intention of building a relationship.

          The stupid template emails of

          Hello Webmaster,

I was reading your post about [insert post title here] and really thought it was great. Blah, blah, blah.

My site is also great. You should link to it. Blah, blah, blah
will just result in spinning your wheels endlessly.

Even then, a lot of webmasters are getting hit endlessly with spammy, nonsense emails to any email address they have made public. That's why outreach on social media can be more effective. You are much more likely to get eyeballs on your message than with email.

I usually just figure, "hey you're in business, I'm in business" and try to work something out. I really do like Yukon's example, I never thought about the networking potential. But it's kind of forced down your throat on social sites.

Article marketing is pretty solid for me. I usually say something like "I wrote this content for my site and realized I kind of covered some of this stuff on my site before. I really don't want to put it on some junk article directory and I want people to read it."

To people wondering why article marketing is effective: If you want to feed me a 1000 word pillar of quality, original, content for a backlink, I'll post it, sure whatever. $50-200 worth of quality content for free, the link off my site doesn't do that much. I know a thing or two about this technique and something tells me that article is going to get enough links to it to out weigh the loss anyways.

Edit: To be clear, I know what Mike is saying here. Emailing people asking for links doesn't really work unless you have some way to provide value. What he probably meant to say was something like: if you have a good strategy and are targeting a site, the least preferred way to contact that webmaster is via email. It's pretty much a last resort, but I will do it and some people/organizations prefer email.

This is way above the heads of most people reading and posting on these forums

I would say t just message the site's admin and tell them about your content. Just make sure your content is of very high quality.

But, you know, I would not bother so much about "getting backlinks". I would worry more about building up traffic!!

Do this to gain traffic, not backlinks. If your content is good enough, the rest will take care of itself!

Alright here is some feedback. One of the more valuable websites I had been contacting through email, I found the webmaster on Facebook using Whois and contacted them via chat. I gave the whole spill about why my resource would benefit their readers. He didnt even hesitate, he linked to my website from a page that holds a PA of 52 and a DA of 67. Sheeze, No idea why I never thought of finding them this way. The link he placed is a naked URL but still im sure ittl pass some juice.

Thanks guys for some of these tips, really!

          Yes, email works.

          Yes, social media works, too.

A good combination of both (email and social media), actually will impact your SEO even without you noticing it.
