    Start with these:
    Good backlinks
    Relevant content
    Even better backlinks

You need to be able to dig into a site & figure what makes it tick. Example, live webpage vs text only webpage for the same URL. That includes understanding HTML at the very least.

You need to understand that followed backlinks are the single most authoritative ranking factor that exist. Without followed authority backlinks nothing else matters for SEO. SEO has two basic things, followed backlinks + plain text, everything SEO related revolves around those two things.

Doing your own testing is where it all starts.

Ignoring most of the nonsense on the web is something else needed. Everyone & their brother will sell you the world If you follow their hype long enough to buy through their affliate link. In other words, what does the person offering advice have to gain (affiliate link, WSO seller, forum link spammer, etc...). That's why it's important to do your own testing, If you can't personally prove something works, consider it BS.

  • First, learn the basics that's one of the most important part of your journey. Even SEO Gurus are still learning because SEO is a continuous process in the industry which means you need to excel in order to be competitive in the field. Expect learning from the wrong person or industry and for the real individual that is well experienced in the field.

  • The best way to learn SEO is by trial and error. Set up a test website and start to track your keywords (use a free one like proranktracker for 20 keywords)... write content, get links, see what happens when you start building links. I agree, this subforum is probably the worst on the entire WF... everyone trying to act like they know what they're talking about.

    • Keywords--Research them and find the best balance between competition levels and the amount of traffic they'll bring you. One to two (max) keywords per page. Be sure to use them in...
Title tags--Each page should have its own title tag. Don't try to rank for your URL or business name, as that should come naturally.
Meta descriptions--Use them to describe the page and get readers to click when they see the description in the search results. You should probably use a keyword.
Meta keywords--Skip 'em. For the most part all they're doing is telling your competitors what you're attempting to rank for. Not really worth the time.
Robots.txt--Tell search engines what to index and what not to. Also set up your URL structure so that the "www" and "non-www" version of your site redirect to one or the other. Otherwise it's viewed as two separate sites (c'mon Google, get your act together).
      Analytics--Install!
