Today I have just done a search with "internet marketing forum" keyword on google

But pretty strange for this site "Webmaster Sun", they are on top #1 for this keyword, see the picture

and have a look on their site, they only have Threads 8,500 threads while other forums have millions of threads/posts

I want to know what SEO techniques they have applied to get first position on Google so I can apply for my blogs.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance.
Jack

Perhaps they have a lot fewer threads titled, "Why does this site rank?"

Seriously.....it's not the number of threads that causes ranking.
    It's about perceived usefulness.

Don't take this wrong...but the WF is a free for all, full of nonsense
threads exactly like this one. It's a forum.

That fact alone means the forum is subject to the winds of threads.
And sometimes those winds can be full of stank.

Seriously....how many of these, "Why does this site rank" do we need?
    Answer: None.

The answers to these questions are endless, from site design (seo-wise)
to just plain hard work. Or perhaps smarter work.

The site in question has snippets and text on the main page.
The WF has changed as well. They are adding text above forums.
They might just need to add more.

    Jack,

I just noticed the same thing today. Never heard of "WebmasterSun" in my life.

Anyways, it might be a temporary bump. Google is known to shuffle websites up and down search positions and to measure different metrics (bounce rate, time on site, navigation, etc.) and then decide which website is a best fit for which position.

So, expect to see them go down a few spots in the next few months.

Agreed, Google could give smaller websites opportunities to have higher positions on search results.

Or their site has good content and quality backlinks that pointing to.

Why would it not rank? Its relevant to the search query.

but I don't think adding text can improve keyword rankings, maybe they used some great SEO techniques that we have not known to push keywords to the top.

Mike, this could happen in any cases if you don't use search bar.

I will try to follow google search results to see how it will happen for next times, I thought Google was CRAZY to push some sites on the top and having higher positions over big sites.

Do these "bounce rate, time on site, navigation" consider as SEO factors?

It also depends on your previous search and interests. I believe each of us are getting different websites on the top of this list regarding the same keyword. For example me, I've got Warrior forum

Is this a real question, or just a ploy to get people over to your forum?! We'll never know

BTW that site is **** ugly, I've never seen so many ads on a single page, holy shit.

It's not a small site as some have suggested.

Those are not ads. The majority of what you think are ads,
is part of the website. The front page is exactly done the way
people are pushing for. Supposedly. People want pictures,
snippets, teasers, come ons, and they took it to the max.

It was their success because you could not distinguish where are ads where are images
After a day with analysis tools, I could learn some new ways from their site to apply for my blog.
