What does Google consider CONTENT?

I had a website dropped by google for "Thin Content" . The website is DanceShoeAccessories.com , and it was put together with Fresh Store Builder. I tried to follow the directions for that product, and had a site with primarily affiliate links.

This brings up a few questions:
  • What does Google consider content? Do i have to write all new articles? What else is there for "Content"
  • Why are there so many shopping sites that rank well, but have only shopping pages, no Articles or "content"? I thought I would have one of those when i made my site, but I guess Google has another idea...
  • Does google penalize sites with Amazon affiliate links? I thought they were ok...

And yes, i'm a little annoyed and disappointed with Fresh Store Builder, but haven't given up on it

  • Content is the text, images, video and information displayed on a website.

Google considers it a "thin" site if the content is not unique, not of value or primarily copied in order to promote affiliate links.

Your website is basically a store front that displays products with affiliate links to Amazon. Nothing on your site provides value over and above what anyone would find going straight to Amazon itself.

These types of sites are getting hit harder by Google. You can't rely on SEO and Google rankings for thin sites like these.

If your site converts, ignore Google and go for PPC traffic and Facebook/Bing ads.

  • Don't go nutz over this. There are plenty more ways to get targeted traffic outside of Google. I would start doing paid advertising since it's fast, and you can test what works for your site - and what doesn't.
  • Content really comes down to a significant amount of 100% unique text, video or images when it comes to Google.

There is allot of room for creativity within that but it takes some actual thought and work to create it. That is why it "adds value".

Your site has next to none of that and so it got dropped. Even a unique 300 word review for each product could have been enough.
  • It's mainly because of affiliate links. There are sites that rank with amazon affiliates but they provide (or at least attempt to) lengthy and "valuable" reviews. Your site has vague descriptions which is probably copies from Amazon? Sorry I didn't check but it provides no value to the readers as members already mentioned above.
