To be honest you do not need to for eg my main keyword for which i am trying to rank is paleo diet and suppose i am ranking on the first page of google for this

lets take a sub keyword for eg paleo diet for women ,In all likelyhood i will be ranking for this keyword also even though i have not optimized my site for this

It is because google thinks you are an authority for paleo diet and will reward you for sub keywords also

    Hope this helps

    • Yes, The answer given by Chan requires little bit more explanation. If you're targeting a keyword food diet and you are on the first page, then there is no need to do SEO for other secondary keywords like food diet for men, women, etc. But if you are not ranking for any keyword, then you have to SEO for those keywords which are having only 50 searches per month.

  • Yes, using less competitive keywords, you will be ranked in Google. You should try SEO techniques to rank those keywords in SERPs for your website.

    • The question is: are you #1 for those other keywords just because you're number 1 for the main one?

Sometimes, it happens that way. Sometimes, you're #1 for the main keyword but #8 or #4. Should you do SEO to move to #1? That depends on how satisfied you are with the results you're getting from being #8 or 4.

    • Yes . Why not? No way automatic ranking this search volume under 50 or under 10.
