If you are banned by Adsense, you will soon be unable to use Google Affiliate Network

About a couple of days ago, Google affiliate network publishers got the following message

"Google Affiliate Network publisher payments will soon be made through Google AdSense accounts. AdSense will offer you a wider range of payment options, improved ways to manage payment information, and consolidated payments from Google (if you're working with other Google products).

You must link to an approved AdSense account in order to receive payments for earnings. Starting on August 13, 2009, if you're the primary user of your publisher account, you'll see an account notification asking you to create a Google AdSense account or link to an existing Google AdSense account. (If you aren't the primary user, you won't see the account notification.)

You must link your accounts before midnight (Eastern Standard Time) on September 21st, 2009 to receive payments through Google AdSense for July and August 2009 earnings (depending on relevant advertiser payment terms). Please create or link an AdSense account as soon as possible to avoid delays in your Google Affiliate Network payments.

Earnings prior to July 2009 will be made through the existing Google Affiliate Network payment system.

Detailed instructions will be sent to you via email on August 13, 2009 to assist in the account linking and creation process.

Sincerely,

Google Affiliate Network Publisher Support Team"

Apparently, all affiliates will be dropped on 31st October if they do not have a valid Adsense account.

As many of you are aware, many people have been banned by Adsense. It seems that unless these people win an appeal, their GAN will be dropped on 31st October even if they have not broken any TOS of the Google affiliate network.

My Adsense account was banned recently and I also failed on appeal. There is no way I can get another Adsense account. Therefore my GAN account will be terminated on Oct 31st even though I had it well before it was taken over by Google. I just cannot see how anybody can say that it is fair because I have not broken any GAN TOS. The fact that we are not seeing a big outcry over this suggests that GAN is not really a big network. I am sure things would be different if CJ were involved.

This is just a foretaste of what will happen if Google owned the whole Internet.

      Google has an affiliate program?

Oh...and they are not "anti-affiliate"....they are anit people writing their own reviews of products that they either never have used/don't currently use...or falsely say they are good when they know the product is crap.

Google took over the Performics affiliate network, which was a relatively small affiliate network when they purchase DoubleClick as few years ago. They then sold off the performics brand to Publicis but rebranded its affiliate network to Google affiliate network. Since Google took over, quite a lot of improvements have been made to the interface but affiliates have complained of a marked drop in the quality of customer service. There are quality merchants there such as Evelyn and Crabtree, Autoanything and Cosmetics America. However, they still pale compared to Comission Junction.

The big gripe is that many people joiined the Performics network before it was taken over by Google. They signed to Performics TOS which had nothing to do with Adsense. Now because their Adsense account had been disabled, they are now effectively banned from the affiliate network as well just because Google wants to consolidate its payment system. Obviously, this is extremely unfair as the operations Adsense and Google Affiliate Network were not linked in any manner in the first place.

The only thing that will make Google reconsider is that if their merchants start seeing their big super-affiliates being dropped suddenly and make a complain to Google. But somehow, I don't think this will happen.

Does anyone have an email address to google customer service because the only way to raise concerns with them seems to be through there customer support help desk that seems to loop and never submit each time I try and get a message to them. This post concerns me as it will many others who have questions for google regarding pay outs for affiliate commissions.

Not to hijack your thread, but they are going to the adsense payment schedule which really really is horrible and I believe will add 2-3 months to the time it takes to receive payment already.

      Hi Kappa,

      That's not true!

Payment cycles are once a month and AdSense pays no later than 30 days after the month ended. So the first day's earnings for any given month are always paid within 2 months and the last day is paid within 1 month.

      Adsense Payment Timelines

This time is NOT added "to the time it takes to receive payment already".

This is now confirmed by a member of the Google Affilate Network (GAN) whose adsense account was banned long ago.

    > denied. So does this meant I will no longer be able to be a GAN
    affiliate?"

    GAN's response.
"Unfortunately, you will no longer be able to participate in Google
Affiliate Network if you are not able to link your account to an approved
AdSense account. If you are unable to link to an approved AdSense account,
we plan to terminate your Google Affiliate Network account on October 31,
2009. Any earnings prior to this date will be paid to you, through the
existing accounting information on file with Google Affiliate Network
(physical check mailing or ACH deposit).

So as it stands, on Oct 31, they are going to terminate all GAN publishers who do not have an adsense account. If indeed there are a large number of publishers involved, the merchants are going to suddenly see a big drop in affiliate driven sales! This is really quite a ridiculous situation.

As you know, most adsense accounts are disabled for invalid clicks. Much of time, the publisher was not aware of what had happened. Even if the invalid cllicks were real, it still not not be linked with GAN.

The problem with invalid clicks just does not arise with CPA

As you can see, the discussion thread on this have got very heated with nearly 10,000 views.

If this continues, I can see that one day that if you are banned by Adsense or Adwords, you could have your whole Google account disabled including Gmail, adsense, adwords, GAN and other services!

If you don't mind me asking, Derek, why were you banned from AdSense? If it was for a lackluster reason, I've witnessed that sending multiple, polite e-mails to AdSense's team explaining your side will sometimes get your account re-instated. Also, even though Google AdSense's help forum isn't technically moderated by AdSense employees, many of the threads created there screaming 'WHY WAS MY ACCOUNT BANNED?" can usually get yourself re-instated since an AdSense employee most likely will see the thread if you keep it going for a while, adding reason after reason why your account shouldn't have been banned.

If that fails, you can always start an LLC for pretty cheap and apply for a new account under a different address.

Jack, I was banned for using Adsense on low quality websites that do not fit Google webmaster guidelines. I had been warned repeatedly about this and I accept full responisbility.

    http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-...ly-got-me.html

As far as the GAN network is concerned, I signed up with Performics well before it was taken over by Google. As a matter of fact, I only started promoting them last month and stopped as soon as I heard about this. To date, I have only made 13 sales. If I have gone on, there is a good chance I would have completely replaced the income lost through Adsense. But I suppose I will have to use other networks now.

So basically, this is not a big loss for me. However, it could be a big loss for many other publishers and also the merchants. Also, another concern is that forcing GAN publishers to have an adsense account again runs counter to CPA. One point that had been raised again and again is that merchants would not like their publishers to dilute their effects with Adsense.
