Site Structure & Meta - Ahrefs Recent Post

Hi, currently in the process of building a new website (London Wedding Photographer | Blavou - Homepage) specifically targeting London Wedding Photographer keyword and its variations.

In the past I have had very good success and have ranked number one for a similar website pretty much since it launched 2 years ago. However after reading the recent ahrefs post (https://ahrefs.com/blog/seo-tips/) I feel I may now be in danger of keyword stuffing and perhaps face google penalties. Specifically the sections on targeting 1 keyword per page. I have also considered that if I were to adjust the site structure and meta I might be able to target another larger search term.

Previous process with site structure design -

Design the site around 1 main keyword (London Wedding Photographer).
Target this keyword in the meta of the 2 most important pages
Target variations in this keyword in other pages (London Wedding Photographers, London Wedding Photographer, Wedding Photographers London etc)

My general page title would look something like this -

London Wedding Photographer | Blavou - Homepage
London Wedding Photographer | Blavou - Photography
Wedding Photographer London | Blavou - Weddings
Wedding Photographer London | Blavou - About

etc etc etc

Please note, this is specifically an ONPAGE seo query, understand there is quite a bit still to do on the site and its not yet complete (lots of 404's at the moment).

Would be good to hear your thoughts.

Just had a quick look at your site and it definitely looks over-optimised. As mentioned in the guide, try and stick to one keyword per page, and don't force them in (the page title should reflect the content of the page).

Also, if the site, or more specifically a page, is strong enough, then Google is smart enough these days to rank it for "wedding photographer london", "london wedding photographer", "wedding photography london" etc without having to create specific pages for every variation.

      Thanks David. Feedback massively appreciated.

It's a tough one as we just did a quick search for other photographers (manchester wedding photographer) and every site thats top seems massively over optimised and we ourselves have had great experiences with it.

If you look at the highest ranked london wedding photographer - miki his actual site isnt very specific towards london, in fact its only mentioned a few times however his <title> for every page follows this format - Page > Wedding Photographer London. What would you recommend?

I checked keyword density and it seems alright but will work on making the words more natural.

Final question, I have used titles on each page - generally in this format.

      <h1>Photography</h1>
<h2>'descriptive eg Creative' London Wedding Photographer</h2>

As I am sure you can imagine, having a website currently in position one for a very similar search term and having been there for over 2 years using the exact same keyword positioning is really hard for us to ignore but we ourselves look at it and think thats not nice flowing text and is stuffing.

I guess the best way is to try it natural and hopefully rank 1 giving confidence.

David, looking at the home page it looks fine - not over optimised at all, however the inner page is over optimised for Manchester.

MikeandTom, if you follow the guidelines I have pointed out to you via PM, you will be fine by diluting the keyword density of the 9 links to the inner page. This is not much work. Get the quality links I have pointed you to and you will see a rise.

Find what backlinks the top 3 sites have and try and get similar links on same or similar sites.

Looking at the website at #1 using ahrefs as a guide, it has 1.43K links compared to your 9 that targets Manchester Wedding Photographer...so there is some work to be done - concentrate on quality as per the PM and you will get there.

It's all about testing and retesting!
