i have a WordPress website which is organized into categories, with the breadcrumb and everything, but the first time i setup this website i made the permalink on the format: domain.com/postname.
now i read about silo and this stuff, and i wonder if i really have to change the permalink structure, which is suggested to be domain.com/categoryname/postname.
how much is it useful compared to the redirects needed and losing facebook likes, tweets and other social signs for 200+ posts already live on the website.
i already read about two opinions, one is totally with changing permalink structure, the other one is totally against it saying silo is silly.
for people who already have experience with such situation, did you find any improvements in ranks?

    Two things:

    1) Social signals don't matter for rankings. Losing them would not make a bit of difference.

    2) Anyone who says using silos is silly, is a moron you should stop listening to.

As for what you should do... really depends on how much traffic you are getting. If I'm getting 10,000 search engine visitors a day, I'm not going to screw with anything. If I am barely getting any traffic anyhow, then might as well make the switch. Not going to lose much.

If you do make the switch, just make sure you setup proper 301 redirects to the new URLs.

thanks for the clear replay, actually if i ever get 10k visits at any given day i would never touch the site.
i'm talking about 500 visits/day which is totally satisfying me, but i cant afford losing them, thats why i'm asking.
as for social signs, i agree with you, it's just useful for building trust (for visitors).
