How to de-index pages fast

I am revamping my website, as part of revamp I am updating page content and also changing the URL. However some of the content will remain same.

Hence its important for me to deindex the pages from google so that when I submit updated pages, it should not consider it as duplicate content.

I have removed the pages and removed the sitemap.

My question - Is there any fast way to de-index all the pages?

  • If you're changing the URL of a page, Google will figure out soon enough that the page doesn't exists, so no duplicate content issue.

    If you're changing the content, no duplicate issues.

    You can also go to your Google Webmaster tools and, under Manage property, go to Google Index, then click on Remove URLs and tell it what URL's to remove... It removes them temporarily... Permanent removal is through you deleting the pages...

  • As you probably already know, I didn’t start TechTage from the scratch. Instead, I revamped my beloved smartphone and general tech blog and just got a new domain for it. As I didn’t post smartphone stuff or general tech news etc. anymore, soon enough Google was having troubles determining what the site was actually about.

    • This makes no sense at all. Google doesn't rank websites, they rank web pages. Surely they could figure out what each individual web page was about.

  • use the removal tool if you need to get something immediately deindexed as long as you don't need to bring it back. Otherwise, you could always 301 redirect that indexed page to another page that you either create or already exists. Redirecting it will make sure nobody can land on it while it IS indexed at least?
    It really depends why you want to remove but I'd use those two methods depending on the circumstance.

  • Just hire one of the backlinkers in the WSO section. That should get a page de-indexed pretty fast.

  • Use Google webmaster tool and click on Google index tab to implement this.
  • There are quiet few methods: via no index plugins or just deleting the page.
    You can also do it from the G WMT section.
  • You are changing the content, not the url.

    Why on earth would you want google deindex a page that it already has?

    Especially if you plan on using THAT PAGE?!?!?!?!?!?!?

    Who told you that you had to deindex the stuff before resubmitting it?

    The whole premise makes no sense.

    I update some pages all the time, even complete makeovers.

    It's the way the internet world works.

    What duplicate content are you even talking about?
