Count the number of links on the root domain and the number of links on each click to get to the page where you are going to place the followed comment.

So if the root domain has 75 links to internal links
if the category page links from the root domain has 50 links
and the page the link will be on has 45 links

then figure out what the order of links are, so if the link is the 43rd link on the page the calculation would be something like this:

    (1/75 * .85) * (1/50 * .85) * 1/(45+43)

so if it's a DA 60, it will be worth about .0001302689393939389 DA

This doesn't factor in any deep links, or the fact that the navigation is a bunch of cross links. So it might be 10-1000x higher depending on those factors.

But it's likely lower since google will know it's a comment anyways and likely completely devalue it.

Comments don't really work man, seriously.

      Haha.. Nice explanation.

For ranking purposes it will not, but for generating backlinks they are. If you give value to the post and put a link relevant to it, someone (visitor(s)) of the site will link back to you or the blog itself.

Blog comment is powerful, if you can make it. It depends on you. Doing relevant comment and adding appropriate links to every comment will surely help you build a good conversion growth for your website.

Blog comment nowadays a powerful way to become familiar with bloggers.

Blog commenting is a good way to diversify your backlinks map! You can easily get some nofollow backlinks from good websites.. But be sure to use QUALITY blogs and write the comment manually (try to be informative and add something interesting, new, not just spam!) ... And if the niche is related and the blog aritlce doesn't have so many other comments (50+!) you could get a small benefit too!

The thing to remember is the fact that even before the introduction of Penguin, utilizing blog comments for link building only offered value if the blog/website was credible (meaning it contained unique and quality content) and if it offered true "do-follow" links (versus "no follow" links), since these are the only links that offer link juice that will get noticed by Google.

Blog commenting is so powerful to spam your website's link and honestly this kind of method is not for link building purposes but to improve the blog site with its suggestions and ideas.

If the blogs on which you are doing commenting are relevant to your niche as well as if the blogs give away a do follow back link into your website. Then you can say that the blog commenting are still valuable link building activity.

No. The purpose is to comment on the article. That link is just a nice gesture from the site owner.

No, you can not. Read irawr's excellent example and try to understand what he talks about. And then consider the fact that Google may devalue even links that don't have rel="nofollow" attribute set as irawr pointed out. Blog comments are some of the least useful links from their perspective.

Comment links are not valuable generally because anybody can make them and Google knows this.

They are great as an extra thing to have if they are clean comment links and not spammy but still just not the core of link building.

It's not anywhere near "the best technique". Theoretically these backlinks can increase your rankings, but it's not likely that they do. They're the lowest quality links available.

I know you guys are just sig spamming, but it takes the exact same effort to post something that's factually correct.

Blog comments, forum postings and social marketing. You can use 3 things even without SEO. And you can get huge traffic. It depends on the way you do.

      Hey axel9

      First of all, nice question

For me blog comments have always been great for generating traffic and building relationships with bloggers, however they don't play any role in search ranking.

But I must tell you that the traffic you receive from blog comments rarely converts.

So overall, comments are only powerful for building relationship with bloggers.

Perhaps to not do that? If you want "huge traffic" take a moment and do a sanity check. Is there "huge traffic" on the page you're getting a link on? Is your link prominent and visible on that page? Usually the answer would be "no" to both questions if you're doing blog comments and forum posting. Your CTR is going to be minuscule.

Social marketing is a totally different animal. Good targeting may yield exceptional results, but you probably have to experiment a lot.

Blog comments are still powerful if you post comment with relevant with your site and grow your conversion. Blog commenting is default nofollow. So, It doesn't affect ranking but helps to increase visitor to your site.

Blog commenting is good for making specific page popular which you are commenting. Also blog comments can contain your website link or a blog and your username. Seems fair way to get something out of it.

Google is well aware of blog comment spam for backlinks. This type of backlink is one of the least valuable that you can get.

I would bet that Google nowadays probably reads the text on the page and determines which part of the text is just blog comments, and specifically makes blog comment links less valuable, given how spammed they have been by SEO'ers historically.

This is a tricky one because things like these ARE COMPLETELY SUBJECTIVE.

We can't tell, based on some arbitrary PA/DA metrics, what is going to happen in the SERPs in relation to your question.

For example, DA can be "faked" and pumped up with GSA but will not be respected by Google.

And this is what I suspect in this case.

So what you're saying is that blog commenting "is powerful" except that it doesn't really work for increasing rankings or getting traffic, but it still works for increasing rankings. You know, that's a tad confusing.

Maybe, maybe not. I'd claim that it's devilishly difficult to make a blog comment so good that even a small portion of the readers are actually going to click your link. Maybe the blog author notices you, but if they're running a huge blog they're going to forget your name soon. In this sense blog comments may help you, but don't expect too much.
