New Domain for Each Sub-Niche?

Hey Warriors, I really need your advice. I have a health-related domain name which can be used to promote different sub-niches (e.g. weight loss, skin care etc.).

Do you think that I should use the same domain for every sub-niche by creating new sub-directories (not sub-domains) or buy a new domain that includes the keyword for each sub-niche?

Are there any obvious pros and cons to both methods when it comes to SEO?

Any input will be much appreciated. Thanks!

Those niches are harder than hell to weasel into. If you've got a domain with solid footing there, don't mess with new domains.

Now if you're going after low hanging fruit in those niches or if it's product specific like "bright blue q-tips" then a new domain like brightblueqtips.com can be very beneficial.

Hey Radix, thanks for the tip. How does for example health.com/brightblueqtips compare to brightblueqtips.com when it comes to ranking difficulty? Would it be equally easy with all things being equal (i.e. same number of backlinks, domain age etc.)?

That is entirely dependent upon the strength of competition (SOC). How many other sites are in the niche? How many sites have the keyword in the URL? It's been my experience that you can rank on the 1st page using the keyword in the URL, not sub directory, almost immediately if the SOC is low.

Long term, brightblueqtips.com is going to hold position better than anything else provided you maintain the site with due diligence. I've held off the likes of Amazon and About.com for keywords this way.
