I have a question that I can't seem to find the answer for..

If I find long-tail keywords to use in creating content for my blog, do those long-tail keywords contain the short-tail keywords within them?

For example, if "scotch whisky" has 3600 average monthly searches, but I use "single malt scotch whisky" in a blog post, which has only 260 avg per month, would both searches work to my advantage?

Hopefully I'm making sense here. Any help is appreciated!

I would recommend it. This works really well if you go for a 3 word keyword that has a 4 word long tail. So you try to rank on "malt scotch whisky" and you should end up ranking on "single malt scotch whisky." But do not attempt to do seo on the keyword "scotch whisky", that's my keyword, don't even think about it.
