Backlink strategy, natural or blackhat or a bit of both?

I've just built a site in the eco-friendly niche with factual blog posts and reviews with Amazon links. I'm ranking on page 1 #10 for one product "product name niche reviews", but the main two keywords are 174 and 178. Quite a few product name variations are about 11 to 30, but these are low/no traffic.

I've been reading about GSA search engine ranker, but it seems a bit spammy unless it's done properly?

At present I've been posting to Twitter, Facebook, G+, Tumblr, Pinterest and StumbleUpon. I haven't submitted to any directories yet and I done a few manual blog comments.

The main purpose of this site is to rank quickly on page 1 or 2 for the main keywords, show some profit and sell it.

PBN is not an option and I don't fancy buying low quality links. What strategy is best to use?

  • Create a few sites on related subjects, build links to them, then link from them to the site you want to sell... Make sure you make big enough sites and enough of them that you can repeat the process with the next site you want to rank and sell.

    Create great content, contact site owners whose visitors might love the great content, let them know you have the great content and ask them to link to your great content.

  • Unless you have a good understanding of SEO then I wouldn't use GSA. These days using software is incredibly risky and most people only use it on tier 2&3.

    If you can't build your own pbn, you could rent some links but this can be a bit of a minefield. If you do your research you can easily build a decent 5 site pbn for less than $100. That will make a big difference if you do it right.

    • I published a review article yesterday on my travel blog with a link to my new site, so thats one domain link of higher authority lol. PBN seems a lot to do for a link, writing the content, separate hosts. Rent links?

      I sourced a copy of GSA today to have a look at. I have an understanding of SEO, basic stuff, no black hat. I never did much link building with my travel blog, hence low traffic! And boring subjects like obscure markets and temples in Thailand lol

  • Forget GSA. Any place you can post a link to yourself isn't worth having a link from.

    If you aren't making content that you can convince anyone to link to, you're already heading down the wrong path.

    It isn't 2005 anymore. Google knows which links can be posted and which are granted by the website owner. Just because it's a link doesn't mean it helps you.

    Make good content. Share that good content. Earn links.

    • Writing quality shareable content about bedding is not that easy, but I've checked out the competition and I think my content is the same or better. I'm doing factual blog posts in the niche, which have done well on Facebook, StumbleUpon and G+.
  • I check my site on Nibbler.silktide quite often and Moz backlink checker, plus Ahrefs. Nibbler is showing 314 pages linking to me and 8 domains. The site I based mine on has 21 pages linking to it and 7 domains since August 2015. My site went live on 5th January.

    I've done a backlink on the competitor and nothing much apart instagram backlinks, would a PBN show up in backlink checkers?
  • I myself am not a fan of software, search engines are getting more and more realistic and close to human way o thinking through AI. So software is not the best choice, also black hat and grey hat strategies are not the best all the time, and can hurt you in the long run, which is very very bad.
    I would follow the correct methods but be persistence on them, don't give up just because in the first 2 months you didn't see anything, remember the more you work others are working harder so push yourself through.
