Does Social Bookmarking still works in 2016?

Hello Warrior Forum,

OK back in WF after a long time. I am mainly a designer but recently I have one client whose site I made and he asked me if I can do some SEO.

Now he's a very nice person but really not with a 500 $ budget.

So my Question is does manual social bookmarking works in 2016? I would do it very slowly ... say 5 bookmarkings per day for each keyword. This way I will do for a week and then stop.

Edit: A bit of addition. I read everywhere that write smashing content that people would like to link to and that's the way to build links. But that's a time taking and long term thing. Though I told to my client to start a blog and hire a content writer to write contents. He said that he really has no interest nor time to manage that. He is also skeptical that how many blog posts should one write and for how long this should continue and whether that will really bring some traffic or mainly sales or not.

  • The stuff you've been reading isn't wrong per se, but your client is also right to decline. Most small business owners just aren't great writers, and have better use for their time than writing or sourcing blog posts. There's so much competition for compelling content that outsourced, lukewarm crap isn't likely to gather positive attention. I know some entrepreneurs who've really used their blog to get visibility, but that's not the usual case.

  • For a typical brick and mortar type of business, that is just a worthless idea. I don't care what kind of content you are putting together. In most cases, the visitors wouldn't even own a website to link from if they wanted to.

    Creating a blog believing it has some magical traffic generating ability is just BS that keeps getting promoted by people who have no idea how to rank websites for business owners.

    • That's what I exactly think. In this case the website is AC and heater cleaning and repairing services.

      So can you tell me whether a planned social bookmarking by me will work or not. I want to do it very slowly and safely to avoid G cops

  • Social Bookmarking really works well for ranking your website. But now it is really difficult to find out high PR social bookmarking site. I had a list of social bookmarking sites which worked well for me in 2012 but now most them don't work.

  • I do SEO but social bookmarking is already out of my list.
    BTW, I'm curious what type of content will you bookmark?
    I find social bookmarking a little bit irrelevant these days because I believe that google search engine most likely considered it as link scheme. But I know that there are still worthy social bookmarking sites like reddit where you can bookmark valuable content. Besides, what matters most is engagement and not just backlinking alone.

  • Bookmarking still helpful for website to get better ranking, but only hight authority bookmaking sites are helpful like diggo. delicous, reddit, stumbleupon, etc..

    But wasting to much time on bookmarking is a bad idea. Focus other sources to create backlinks.
  • If you are working on high PR, Social bookmarking sites. It's working to get ranks.

    • There's no such thing as "high pagerank site". Yes, some of the sites are popular and have strong front pages, but you're not getting a followed link on that front page. The actual links are buried somewhere deep within the site, and probably only linked from profile pages or archives. The strength of the linking page matters, and so does the number of outbound links on that page. Social bookmarking is usually very bad on both fronts.

      Then there's the "IM version" of social bookmarking, but that's just spam.

      Reddit is not a social bookmarking site, and the links are nofollow. It doesn't rank anything directly. The rest are actually well-known social bookmarking sites, but as I said they don't work either.

    Yes Social Bookmarking is still working in SEO. I have also doing this too. Its just you need to work on good bookmarking sites like Reddit, Stumble upon, Delicious, Scoop it..

    As far as the blog post are concerned, its up to you how many of them you want to post. It would be great if you update your blog page regularly. Also dont forget to share it on your social media profiles as it can also help you in gaining traffic.

    I would also recommend you to do guest posting for back-links from good sites which can surely help you in gaining traffic.

  • Social bookmarking is always a best and easy way to get some instant traffic on your website,
    but on one condition that, the site on which you are going to work bookmark your content should be relevant as according with your content, after you have to look that the given social bookmarking site have a good reputation or not.
    if having a good reputation then go with ease, it will surely working for you.!!

    I read many post on your question they told that social bookmarking is useless. But I am not agree with their opinion. although these are usless but when google count the back links I think they must work otherwise black hat SEO has no right to stay in the world

  • Social bookmarking submission is still working and it brings more black links to the websites for increasing the traffic.
  • In terms of ranking I dont think Social bookmarking works, but yes there are some sites which can give you some decent traffic.

  • Not all social bookmarking websites but go for some good ranking niche bookmarking sites it will be helpful in terms of traffic as well it will be helpful in rank. so go for it but a very few which have good ranking and DA.
