Why is this site outranking w/ only 6 backlinks

Okay so im noticing anything "Tampa" is a competitive keyword because its so populated here. But i was looking at this keyword this site is ranked #1 with only 6 backlinks.

Keyword: Roofer in Tampa
website: roofers-tampa . com

Can someone explain to me how they got such a good position? Looking at their website i dont even see good content.

The only things i can think of is domain age, but its not even that old, it was created 2010. and exact match domain.

It would be great hearing some insight from others.

    Domain age is really not a ranking factor.

    You really have no idea how many backlinks the site has. There is nothing out there that will tell you that. They might have 6. They might have 600.

    Local rankings are a lot more about citations than backlinks though.

      huh? you seem like the type that would know about https://ahrefs.com

      they tell me how many backlinks that site has.

      I remember reading somewhere that citations werent factored in as much as it used to be. im trying to rank a local roofing company. I been creating great informative content, then i planned on getting backlinks to those pages.

      I haven't worked on doing many citations though. I didnt know that was such an important factor. Do you of any blog posts with lists of websites to add my NAP too?

      that was my understanding for ranking in 2016 as well. Ive been working on creating great content. but i just visited that site and seen thin content and not very informative, then i was like "ohh, well they must have a lot of backlinks" so i checked ahrefs and found they barely have any. thats what made me post here.

        A website owner can block backlink checkers from discovering backlinks the website owner has created (like backlinks from a PBN). You don't know if this is the case or not with the competition.

    Link popularity is just a one factor. There are so many other factors that effects ranking. Content and user friendliness are two main factors that effects SEO. We can get top ranking without any backlinks.

    I'm well aware of Ahrefs.com.

    My point is no backlink monitoring service has the resources to crawl and index the entire internet. What you see in any of them is not necessarily a reflection of how many links actually exist. Most of the time, it is just a small fraction.

    1 follow and 1 nofollow

    it happens ..should be easy to out rank then i suppose

    two relevant links with keywords swithced around in urls from backlinking domains

      this is not the case trust me, the next few competitors for that keyword got hundreds or thousands of backlinks.

      I was just shocked this had so little when i ran it in aherfs.

        Majestic SEO says the root domain has 8 new backlinks, 86 altogether.

        They have 184 pages indexed...

        It's ranking because it has the phrase roofers tampa, has some backlinks, and others are not going for either roofers in tampa or roofers tampa... It doesn't do so well for Rampa Roofers... a couple more sites are going for that, specifically.

        It's not competitive, roofers in tampa, that and the fact that they've done some SEO is why they're ranking...

          hmm, looks like ill try to target "roofers in tampa" in the future then. in my head, if i was looking for a roofer that is the kind of keyword i would use, im sure its different for everyone though.
