Value of product name's .com in SEO

I recently engaged a domain broker about pricing for the .com of my product name. To be clear, the product name isn't a made-up name, but the actual product itself. An example would be bunkbed.com or sewingmachine.com. I've built a brand around this product and it's ranking okay for SEO.

The price of the domain is $5,000. My current sales are roughly $60k/month. Is this a worthwhile investment? Why or why not?

You don't need the domain for anything SEO related.

Do you feel that your brand needs it? Would it help the brand recognition or make your site seem like the authority on the field?

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?

The only thing you might be missing is "type in" traffic.

Meaning, if I met you out at a bar, and we were talking about your business, and you told me it was "sewingmachine" but didn't give me a card.

So I'm assuming the next morning in my hungover state that if I wanted to look at your site I'm going to just type in sewingmachine.com.

If you decide to sell the business at a later date, the dot com is another asset to include in your asking price.

As always you're betting the farm If you're considering buying another domain & doing redirects from pages already ranked on Google SERPs.

If you really want the new domain for whatever reason my advice is build it out as another site, use the old site to help rank the new site (backlink). Do not combine the two sites/domains.

You can always cross promote the two sites to milk both traffic sources.
