New affiliate website ranking

What are some of the best ways to get a new site ranking? I've been looking into backlinks but heard a variety of answers saying they DO and they DON'T work or they aren't worth it anymore.
My niche is slightly competitive but not so much that I won't be able to rank higher. Can someone give me some insight on this issue please? Thank you

      These aren't anywhere near the best types of backlinks. Yes, they're easy to get, and that's precisely the reason why they're so lousy.

      Your own web properties? Friends, colleagues, contacts? If that's not feasible maybe something like PBNs or even bought links.

      Affiliate websites are hard to rank for obvious reasons. The product is sold by other guys by definition, and usually the company that runs the affiliate scheme has their own pages too.

    I think forum and social backlinks are helpful but by no way the best... Backlinks on the whole the number one way to rank your blog but remember quality over quantity, buying 10k links on fiverr is gonna get you a penalty at some point, if you speak to other bloggers, gurus in your niche and ask them to share yor content this could lead to them linking or their followers... Guest posting on another influential blog is by far the best in my eyes, you give value to the blogger and their reader but you also can bring them back to your site
