I wish to find out what the best way to present 'meta tags" most especially on the Title, and Description.

Will a duplication of keywords and description affect SEO and SERP of a site?

What does Google say about it.

I have been hearing more of content duplication, is it also applicable to Meta Tags?

  • Use keywords in Title one time and 2 times in description. Using variants of the keyword would be better practise. Do not stuff keywords Google doesn't like that. Content should be unique and yes it is also applicable to the Meta Tags.

  • Yes, Duplication is a major issue in Google. Instead of using single keyword, you can use different-2 keywords in title and Meta Description section.
  • Theres nothing wrong with using the same keyword in the Title Tag and Meta description. Duplicate content penalization is more for the body content, not meta tags. It is advisable to use different variations of the same keyword so you cover more ground. So lets say you have the word Company in the title, then switching it up to Companies in the Description. Using close synonyms is good too, but your main focus with "meta tags" is to target the highest search volume keywords still.
  • Hi NestZone,

You want to target few keywords then use pipeline method that will help you to get fast ranking in SERP. But if you are targeting many keywords
then use them in longtail style that will help you better.

And your meta tags format should be in this style if you few keywords:

    Title: Business Name + |Keyword1| + |Keyword2| + |Keyword3| + Location

Description: Repeat keywords 2 times and cover business name + location

    Keywords: around 10 keywords

But if you have more keywords then:

    Title: Business Name + longtail Keyword1 + longtai Keyword2 + longtail Keyword3 + Location

Description: Repeat keywords 2 times and cover business name + loaction

    Keywords: around 10 keywords

And make you title and description in this style. So that your meta tags should not look duplicate.

    • Do you know what you get with this "method"? Google probably just overwrites your titles because they seem spammy. If you're trying to stuff titles that much you're doing something wrong.

Description is not a ranking factor so it doesn't matter if you leave the keyword out completely. I would treat them either as a short description, or as a call to action. Or both.
  • Meta descriptions are commonly used on search engine result pages (SERPs). Meta title should 1-70 characters & Meta Description should be 70 to 160 charcaters. Avoid Duplicate Meta Description Tags. Important Meta tags are description, Keywords & robots
  • Use Meta tags twice in the description. various kind of tags will be obtained for the future purpose. Should always notice the updated google theme. Content technique will include this meta tags also.
  • No, it will not be considered as keyword duplication. It is more called keyword stuffing that how many times keyword is used. The best way is to use similar keywords to make better use of titles and meta descriptions.
  • Thank you all.
I made some changes, had to reduce the stuffed keywords and got the red signal off.
At least I returned on the first page.

But I noticed something else, my competitor has multiple pages of the same keyword ranked before me.
Is it not suppose to be one page per keyword per website?
  • Generic meta tags and description are the best way to optimize your website. Optimally you can use 1 or two keywords and maintain title length 55 character or 512 px length to get your keywords on higher positions.

    • No, they're not. Meta tags do pretty much nothing.
