I am doing keyword research for seo, not for adword paid search.

I am putting in two or three terms that describe my business. When I hit Get Ideas and then go to key words I have "Search terms that I had entered and below that Keyword suggestions.

The thing is, it seems that the search terms I put in should be used as keywords.

So do I add those search terms as keywords if they have high search volume?

The higher the search volume, the more likely the harder they are to rank for.

You have to determine what keywords are most pertinent to your site and how long tail you want to go.

You can take those keywords one at a time and do a general search, allintitle, etc and see who else is using them and how they are using them.

You can dive deeper and go into someone elses page using that keyword and check out their backlinks etc.

Or you can use a tool that will show you competitions page rank, site age, etc

Don't just add them for the sake of adding them. Add what makes sense to your site.

I am just going to pick the keywords that are most pertinent to the site and then out of those pick the opnes that are higher volume than others.

      Does that make sense?

As for long tail I think that means specificity?

For my client I will go specific because they are a very specialized product that airline purchasing agents will be searching for. So it is very specific.
