Importance of Google Business and Local Guides as Google ranking signals

Hi Guys,

Recently our company got an e-mail from Google say that our images have been viewed over a certain number of times on Google Maps and were invited to sign up as Local Guides. I did a bit of research and found that this is just the opportunity to upload pictures, provide reviews etc. for your local area and become more authoritative through achieving different levels.

My question is, how significant are the peripheral Google products, such as My Business and Local Guides, as ranking signals? I'm guessing Google wouldn't be encouraging businesses to use these if they didn't help to increase website relevancy and authority (and as a byproduct some sort of SEO boost)?

  • Google loves Google products. I would go for it. The more you are in their network and using their tools and platforms, the better it will be for you and your site. It's like Google Plus. No one actually uses Google Plus, but Google gives credit to sites that have a Google business page because its theirs.
