I have a question guys. If a website is really popular to the point that the name of the site is being searched in high volume monthly. If I were to purchase a .net or .org with that exact same name could I put a basic info site and redirect it to my ecommerce site for traffic?

.com extension is better than other.
but you can do it, redirect to your ecommerce site with .net or .org

Redirection is better option with all matching names and exact names of that high volume domain. I guess Google and Facebook also uses redirection for other matching domains.

If you're trying to rank for a popular brand name it's not enough to just register a domain. You'd also need to rank the site.

Depending on your jurisdiction you might get slapped for this stuff, of course. If you're clearly infringing on someones trademarks they can take the domain from you.
    Signature
Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?
