SEO via popular website extensions

Hello,

I was wondering if you could drive traffic to your site be redirecting an extension of an already popular website? For example, the keyword "Amazon" gets XXXXXXX of monthly searches and Amazon.org is available for purchase. I purchase it and put some info on the site title tags all the good stuff but then redirect it to my eCommerce site. Logically it makes sense but I wanted some of your opinions if you don't mind.

Thank you

that is good idea. but when you drive traffic to your site, it gets short term time i think.

If your trademark infringing site starts to rank for anything, Amazon is probably going to yank the domain from you. ICANN has a process for this stuff. As far as I know companies have to defend their brand and IP because of the way that US laws are being interpreted.

I realize that Amazon is just a random example. If it's a smaller company it's easier to get away with something like this.

Building a site and redirecting it would mean that the site would eventually drop from search results. Redirects only keep the backlinks you'd get to that site.
    Signature
Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?

    Yea, that's not happening.

If the domain is available, you can buy it but expect a lawyer knocking on your front door If you rank for any decent keywords (drawing attention to the domain name). My bet is SERP competition would nark you out to Amazon.

You won't rank a redirect for very long regardless of the domain name. Google will eventually self correct the SERPs when they find a redirect via an http status code.

Yukon- What if it's a company who is headquartered in another small country? They drive a really large amount of traffic and are a leader in the industry which sort of has a gray area in terms of legality in the US. (Not drugs or anything to that extreme) I feel like this company wouldn't even try to pursue an international law suit just because of the headache and what not. I wouldn't be infringing on their brand I would have my own logo and would be operating out of a different country...
