Local Citations Anchor Text Mistake

Just wanting to get some opinions on a mistake I seem to have over looked. In my journey to rank my local business website and Google my business page I started having nap citations built. More and more services were being offered making this a cheap method to get high ranking on maps and organic.

After doing between 200-300 citations I thought I should be dominating the results but that is not the case. My competition did not seem that feirce but I hit a plateau and what progress I would make was laughable.

At first my citation were boosting my ranking by leaps and bounds. That seemed the case when I was under 100 nap citations. What I overlooked was my exact site address being used as a back link in a majority of these citations. Now I go to check my anchor text diversity and link ratio on exact address anchor text is over 60%. Head slap!!!

Anyone else have this issue? I am still debating on starting the whole site over as I have over 500 BL. I'm not sure of the cost or time involved to dilute the anchor text problem. Looking forward to hearing thoughts, experiences, or advise on this issue.

  • Your anchor text percentage does not matter. That is a big myth.

    The problem is more likely that there are not 300 good citations sources out there. Most of what has been added is probably garbage which is why you feel like it hit a plateau.
  • There's absolutely no bearing for your anchor text percentage. It really doesn't count.

    You might have difficulties on finding a good and reliable source. You probably need to find a better source.
