Is there a way to tell if Google will allow a youtube video on 1st page for a keyword?

I'm looking at what I feel are low-competition keywords, but I can't always find youtube vids on the front page the queries. That being said, there aren't necessarily many well optimized vids for these queries, but I'm wondering that's the only reason I'm not seeing them on page 1. Anyone care to chime in? Thanks.

You can't assume anything with Google. They don't want you to know their algorithms and won't divulge them . . . so you are only guessing about why Google ranks something.

It could be that there are no videos optimized for the keywords.

It could be that the videos that could be ranked for the keywords are not being shown for some reason.

Why don't you make some simple videos, optimize them for the keywords you're talking about, and see if you can get them ranked?

My guess is . . . yes, Google will allow a YouTube video on page 1 for any keyword if that video deserves ranking according to their algorithm.

I would look at page 2 and 3 of the serps! If you don't see a video I suppose it can be a lot more challenging. Your correct though that when doing your research you see a video on google on page one your chances of getting there can be a lot, lot easier.

There's generally two reasons Google won't list videos on the first page:

    1. No videos are optimized (well) for those keywords.

    2. Google doesn't rank videos highly for certain keywords. Videos for certain local based keywords in particular can be tough (if not impossible) to rank first page in Google.

Check if there are videos optimized and ranking in Youtube for the keywords but not in Google. If so, it's likely Google just doesn't include videos for those keywords at the top of their listings.

On the other hand, for things like "how to" topics, Google gives a boost to videos. "How to" is considered to be a "video keyword" by many video marketers.

Many people think that Google ranks everything the same way for the same keywords. They don't. Ranking factors can vary from keyword to keyword.

Are you signed in to a Google account, or using Chrome?

Google tailors your SERs and ads based on historical data they have on you.

For five years I had extremely slow Internet access. Videos were nearly impossible to watch. So, if video showed up in my results I never clicked on them. Eventually G stopped showing me video results.

Not everyone sees the same results or even close.

  • Have a look on youtube to see if there are actually videos created for your target keyword with on page seo.

Then look and see if those videos are ranking on google or if any are. Usually if there are no videos and there are videos with that keyword title in youtube for some reason google doesn't want to rank them.

If there's one video there it usually means it could be easy for you to rank.

If there are a lot of videos on page 1 for that video it could be too competitive for you.

    Have a blissful day.

As Steve said, you cannot assume anything in Google. I believe any video can get #1 spot in google (for some time at least) assuming its on- and off-page optimization are superior to other competing pages/videos.

I got seem youtube video on first page.

If you noticed , every time you want to search somethings,

One youtube video will be there and always on first page related to what you have search.

You may also notice that there are:

      Image results.

      News results.

      Wiki results.

      Social results

      ...and so on

There will be multiple modalities available for searchers if those modalities exist.

When trying to rank for narrower results it might be worth making sure you have many modalities covered so you increase your chances of a page one appearance for your desired target.

      Best regards,

Google only puts videos on searches that they feel warrant one.

The vast majority of people looking (or wanting) a video,
go to youtube first. Go figure.

my test show for some keywords videos will not rank page one period

especially ones they deem spam or one's that try to skew their results

I've tried many times for very specific keywords that did not rank regardless of every trick I tried

SEO is one of those keyword sets they appear to protect with a vengeance

    As Kurt said

Many people seem to have a misconception that Google uses the same criteria for each and every keyword. They don't.

And just as Google seems not to rank videos highly for certain keywords, they also seem to rank video more favorable for other keywords.

This isn't really the issue I discussed above. What I said was, it was difficult for videos to rank HIGHLY for certain keywords, particularly for local, not that they "won't" rank.

To be more clear, it's hard to get videos using many local search terms on the first page. Second page listings are possible for these terms. However, the OP clearly stated "Page 1" in his post, and this point is the one I addressed in my earlier posts.

But I played along anyway. Try "las vegas dui attorney" (no quotes). The highest ranking video I found was about #13, if my counting is correct. And if we count the "3 pack" of local "places" listings, the YT video would be #15 or 16.

You also should note that video is the only video I found in the top 100 listings for this keyword query. But if you check Youtube for the same keywords, you'll find a number of YT videos for the keyword phrase las vegas dui attorney. I think we'll see that there are a number of YT videos pretty well optimized for those keywords, yet only one of them shows in the top 100 in Google SERPs.

BTW, I didn't cherry pick keywords and that was the very first keyword phrase I checked. You'll need to do your own research from now on.

I'm not sure why you're being a smart ass.

Your keyword (las vegas dui attorney) has a video thumbnail at position 14 on Google SERPs. The problem isn't Google not ranking videos, the problem is you're not doing enough SEO to get the video thumbnail ranked.

How is stating facts being a "smart ass"? But name calling is the last resort of someone that doesn't like the facts. LOL

I explained to you that my point was that for many local keywords Google doesn't rank videos on the first page. And you backed up my theory by repeating the fact I already stated that in this example the top ranking video is #13 in my search and #14 as you stated.

Since you either missed it or ignored it, I'll post my comment again for your convenience:

Going by the "letter" of your request, technically you are correct. However, going by the intent of my posts, as well as the OP's point, there isn't a video ranked on Page 1. And I doubt there ever will be for that search term regardless of any further SEO., unless Google has an update.

I understand any confusion about the ranking on the first page after my first post, but not after I clarified my point.

And the problem isn't that "I'm" not doing enough SEO. I have nothing to do with that video. It's just the first example I pulled up at your request. Don't ask people to post specific facts if you don't like the answer.

Not to mention, your comment about "not enough SEO" is pure speculation. I'd bet a coke that with all those related videos on Youtube, some of them did a fair amount of SEO. Many of them are very well optimized on YT.

Uh, Google handles local citations a specific way. Since this is pretty innovative, I don't really want to discuss this in public. I'm personally not into local stuff but I will say that the same rules apply to any local keyword.

I mostly work with global stuff and the only thing that changed with YT videos is internal changes to YT.

I've been paying a lot of attention to YT videos ranking in Google lately and all I will say publicly is, the same things appear to work for YT and regular listings. I was actually extremely surprised by what I found and I'm sure it's the same for local with the tweaks that are needed.

You're saying for many local keywords G doesn't rank videos, I'm looking at what's going on thinking, why would it?

              Video thumbnail images at positions:

              seo = #134
              seo tools = #142
              seo software = #27
the OP stated page one, Kurt and myself both showed examples of keywords that don't and we both suspect it's not about enough SEO or anything else we would do

Google just does not rank certain keywords on page one for youtube videos

By that theory what's the magic search page number, page #2, page #4, page #120, etc...?

Google is not throttling video thumbnails based on keywords.

Like I said, remove competition from the SERPs & the video thumbnail image will rank, therefore do more/better SEO.

I've tried many more terms than this on the subject and almost all of them will not show in the SERPs for youtube

In addition when I crawl their SERP pages for info they are very quick to catch me

seems to me from the test I have run

        Video thumbnail images at positions:
        • seo = #134
        • seo tools = #142
        • seo software = #27

Again, just like Kurts keyword (las vegas dui attorney) it's not that Google won't show a video thumbnail image, it's competition ranking their own pages.

YouTube videos tend to show up in the search results when someone includes any of these keywords in their search: tutorial, WT, demo, how to, music, reviews and of course anything followed by the word video.
