Is Hubpages still relevant for back linking?

Hi everyone,

Just recently have I begun to explore serious tactics into back linking using free blog sites and social networking sites. The more my key words are out there pointing back to my site the better off I am (at least I think I am).

However I'm still a bit of a noob in this respect and was wondering if Hubpages still relevant? I know there are other pages like:
- Digg.com
- Squidoo.com
- hubpages.com
- ning.com
- advogato.org
- asmallworld.net

I'm just wondering what the experts here think is the best way in creating back links?

Is it smart to open up accounts all over and post keyword rich mini sites or posts pointing back to you?

Or is my thinking backward and allow back links to happen naturally and organically?

Thanks in advance and I apologize if this has been covered before.

It's only smart if you want to get slapped with a Google penalty.

    Bingo.

There are some exceptions, such as when guest posting or linking back to your blog from a YouTube video (or any other relevant source) but the point is that you should never build links for the sake of building links.

Links should only be where they are relevant, and it should never be for the purpose of getting "link juice". (That sounds like a bad tonic.)

    Regards,

FYI, Squidoo no longer exist as it had been acquired by HubPages in August 15, 2014.

I am not bothered with those hubpages. FB, Pinterest, youtube and Instagram are so powerful, why would you want to waste your valuable time on Hubpages? I would not do it. Christina

With your initial list including Squidoo and Digg, I'd be worried about how recent the information you're using is.

As others have said, Squidoo was sold a long time ago.

Digg was useful for a short time but I can't remember the last time I saw it appear in results.

Hubpages tends to be ultra-strict about promotional content so even getting as far as having a page published isn't easy. Near enough all my Squidoo lenses that were moved across were deemed too promotional once the honeymoon period was over.

Use sites that real people use to generate your backlinks - that means places like YouTube, maybe some of the document sharing sites, maybe a few Web 2.0 sites if you can stay withing the terms and conditions, Pinterest, etc.

Thanks guys for the information. I focused all my time on building my site and doing guest blog posts and never paid any attention to hubpages digg or any of those sites. I only came across them recently so I wondered about the validity.

    Thank you!
