Comments show people are interested in your page and yes, they will show Google your site is interesting and has value.

Nope. In most cases they do absolutely nothing.

    What's your excuse?

It does have a slight bearing on your searchability for a couple of reasons.

    1) Guests who comment tend to use semantic terms in their context of query especially, and search engines do respond to content that are not just keyword-related but terms that are logically linked to the keywords as well.

    2) Comments are just like other indicators of a blog or website's interactivity such as likes, shares, subscribers count, etc. These all point to what they deem as engagement and engagement does boost search rankings.

This is true for YouTube, but doesn't seem to be important in Google Search. How would Google even track something like subscribes? Shares are behind APIs in social media sites, and the data is probably not easy to use.

Either you comment on any blog or someone else comments on your blog it does not actually bother Search Engines but yeah they are more interested in content because they use to crawled for displaying results on SERPs, and site administrator filter outs all the irrelevant comments and links from the Blog. Blog commenting is the very strong way of harness traffic for your website even if crawlers does not index your link in the comment. Moreover, presence of comments on any blog website is just implying the users are active and so is the website. Thanks.
