Will changing shopping cart platform affect SEO/DA/PA?

Hello,

I recently purchased an e-commerce site that is hosted on Storesonline Pro. I hate this platform, as it is a pain to work on, has archaic interfaces, etc. I'd like to switch to Shopify, but it is a 9 year old domain with a DA of 34.

Will switching platforms negatively affect this or no? I really appreciate any and all feedback.

Thanks!!

Hang on let me get my crystal ball out.

Question #1 Where do most of your links point to? If it's the root domain then not much will change but your rankings might bounce around for awhile.

Question #2 Will this software alter your site's URL structure?

Question #3 Man I really think it's stupid to change something like that if it truly isn't a problem, you're potentially creating all kinds of problems there. I know Shopify is great software but what is the specific reason you feel you need to change your software out? If this is a real business with active customers daily I wouldn't do squat.

Thank you for your response BrownBeard.

    1) The overwhelming majority of my links point to the root, with a few pointing to category pages which wouldn't change once I switched over.

    2) When you say "this software" I assume you mean the current platform? You can't really customize anything on this platform. You can't even pull reports in the dashboard...the system generates them and emails them to you. Takes forever, assuming it even works. But the url structure should stay the same. Nothing crazy there.

    3) I hear what you're saying, but currently it gets almost no traffic and is generating zero sales. One look at this site, and you would understand that it is definitely not set up to convert. It looks like something out of 1999. When I bought the business, it came with an Amazon seller account which is where all of the revenue comes. So, I figured now would be the time to switch it over so that it at least looks like it was made in this decade and I would have the tools to optimize as I go. I just didn't want it to screw with my authority, because I'm not far off from the sites that are ranking #1 for a lot of my products.

Once again, I thank you for your input. This is my first foray in e-commerce, and there's a ton of potential here.

Then I would swap it and not worry about it.

Understand I don't want to give somebody bad advice and get their $50,000 revenue a month business toasted.

If there's any important external links that get broken (pages on your site that have external links to them) just 301 them to where they should go, you should be very selective about this.

You might want to watch your 404s and look at any real referral traffic for awhile. (not bots, they will figure out stuff changed by the sitemap.)

I think it comes down to how the new cart if setup and configured. Do the URL's still stay the same? Was there any content on the shopping cart pages before that is now gone? Did titles change?

Aside from some of that I don't see much else really effecting anything major.

I guess I will be the first to be honest.

2 out of 3 are useless.

As far as SEO, if it changes your internal linking, urls, and url structure,
of course it could. It could change for the worse, or better.

Even though you claim it won't, I can't see how obliterating something keeps it the same.

Unless you hire a gaggle of tech geeks to redo the site.
