Sounds like you have been looking at data from the Google Keyword Planner!

The competition data in the GKP is for ADWORDS advertisers not search engine ranking (SEO) competition

The reason 'pimple' is low competition is two-fold, first, because it is a broad term with little-to-no commercial intent, thus no advertisers are bidding on it because it will cost them lots of money in clicks, for probably zero sales.
Secondly, single word terms like this are usually dominated by sites that will be virtually impossible to beat in the SERP's, so nobody tries, because in any event, it may not make them enough money for the effort involved in doing so.

Pimple cream is a highly commercial keyword, (it's a hot 'buyer' keyword for folks with pimples) and advertisers are falling over themselves to bid on it, and SEO's everywhere are trying to rank for it organically, so the competition will always be very high, and likely difficult to beat.

Keep digging for longtail keywords that will be much easier to rank for e.g. 'pimple cream for teens'

    I have collected this:-
Make a plan for the actual content you’re going to create that will – hopefully – rank for your chosen keyword. There are many paths to ranking for a keyword, including but not limited to:
    • An article
    • A blog post
    • A product page
    • An index or directory of links (to other pages on your site or around the web)
    • An authoritative guide
    • An infographic
    • A video
