Trying to understand how I am supposed to upload the file that the red arrow points to, in the screenshot. My web host's tech support says they don't know how, I need to contact my "webmaster".....so here I am at WF! Any feedback would be appreciated as the site is WordPress platform.....................

  • cPanel File manager
    public_html -
    yourdomain.com root folder
from the menubar > Upload > select the file from your PC

    or use FTP client.
  • The reply above is actually what you would need to follow via FTP or the File Manager Interface.

What Webmasters Tool is asking you is to Verify that you actually Own the Domain Name - so, if you do, then you should be able to Access your Domain FILES.

This is usually done via your cPanel - or an FTP Interface like FileZilla.

You need to download the File the Webmasters Tool is giving you, and then Upload it to your Root Domain. Example; www.yourrootdomain.com/WEBMASTERSTOOLFILE.html

Another way to verify your domain is by Adding it to your Google Analytic Account FIRST - and then adding it to the Webmasters Tool.

You should see the other Verification Methods on that page - take a look at them and choose the easiest one for you.

    Hope this helps!

How the heck can you guys even see what's on the OP image? I click the image & the WF page fails. OP either embed the full size image or link to a full size image.

As far as uploading anything to a host, my advice is forget Cpanel, it's clunky as heck. Use something free like Filezilla FTP drag and drop from the PC to the online host. Trust me, you use Filezilla a few times & you will never want to use Cpanel again for uploading/downloading files.

    • Yeah, seems some funny stuff going on with this forum at the minute.

Are you on HG Yuke? their cPanel uploader is fine for smaller files, takes just a second or two, but I agree FZ is much faster for large files.

  • Hi toivo,

If you're using Wordpress, just install the Yoast SEO plugin and follow the directions below:

How To Add Your Website To Google Search Console - Yoast Knowledge Base

    • So sorry to be slow in responding to all of the phenomenal feedback. I did in fact realize after my initial post here, that I did have the Yoast SEO plugin activated within my WordPress and what I had done was go through the various steps to accomplish the verification process from here on out. It is a great plugin and wish I would have known in advance that this plugin had the ability to do all the work instead of my having to do it manually (which thank God, I didn't have to). However, while I am here, this new site is a different look with a built in shopping cart.....thus requiring me to install an SSL in the site so it is no longer an http-based domain but is now an https based domain (the URL is exactly the same as before though) and am wondering what if any, I need to be aware of in order that the site is more SEO-friendly while it propogates.....the new look was relaunched about 10 days ago
