OK Geeks I need your advice.

I recently noticed that one of my parked domain names is an exact match for a product with roughly 150,000 searches per month. However, the domain has the word "best" at the beginning.

So as an example, bestcoffeemakers.com

BUT, in this example,

it is the term "coffee makers" that actually gets the 150,000 searches per month, not "best coffee makers". In fact, the term "best coffee makers" only gets around 500 searches per month.

It's often stated we should target buying keywords with commercial intent, but in my example, if someone just searches "coffee makers", that is no indication of buying intent, the fact I am targeting best coffee makers means nothing right? As in it won't help me much if at all?

.

IMO coffee makers is buyer intent but root keywords like that are sort of rare as far as buyer intent.

I can't imagine why anyone would search for coffee makers unless they're ready to buy or at least comparison shop. Either way they're already on the fence with their credit card in hand.

      Thanks for your thoughts Yukon.

I agree they are probably searching to at least compare at that stage, but more for a possible future purchase maybe. If they had searched for coffee maker reviews, top coffee makers or buy coffee maker, I'd feel more confident they were likely to buy that day. I'm over thinking it I guess.

As regards to domain selection, do you think my having best at the beginning makes much of a difference to seo or authortiy in the eyes of the visitor?

I'm sure best will have some people actually believing it's the best whether it is or isn't, some folks are gullible.

As far as SEO, it's just a keyword like any other keyword, but...

Look at Best Buy. In that situation the brand name text/anchor-text helps rank organic keywords on the SERPs.

      Let me help your imagination:
people who come across a thread on Warriorforum
people who have a high school paper to write
wanna-be blogger millionaires in search of their next post topic.

But, you're right, most mean to buy... though not necessarily right away. Actually, a good number of them are thinking they want another coffee maker but will be thinking that for the next 2 years or till the one they have actually dies on them.

Need another word or two in there, to reach the late buying stage peeps. Best is one of them...

To address the OP's concern: ranking for coffee maker will make you money... but a lot of the visitors won't be buying. Since traffic is so high, if it doesn't cost 3 arms and a leg to rank for it, go for it; just accept that a large percentage of visitors aren't going to buy on the 1st or 2nd visit.

  • Just to add to all the other great comments. I'd like to say that you should definitely go with the bestcoffeemakers.com plan. Exact keyword domains are losing their SEO power. Back in the old days they were a great way to get traffic. Now, as content, relevancy, and optimized sites are the most important the actual domain keywords are less important. But saying that I think having best in your domain name is a help.

  • Sorry, I hadn't finished posting..... You're looking for long tail keywords in the end. Most people will type 'What's the best coffee maker' or 'best coffee makers' rather than coffee makers when looking to buy. People searching for images of coffee makers will not be buying anything from your site so why try and rank for that term. This is a very general explanation but I hope you can see my point.

put two LSI in posts, that works better.

And in the start, middle and end of your post.

Do not make it sound jibberish, and if you do this, google will love you. It should rank well.

When it comes to registering domains, you should use the ones with long tail keywords. E.g. 'coffee makers' is so broad and has a huge competition compared to 'best coffee makers'. If I were you, I'd go with bestcoffeemakers.

IMO the domain is fine. It is part of the optimization process. But, your title, meta tags, keyword density, as well as your backlinks will all impact your SEO.

Be careful not to 'over optimize' for the one keyword. Use LSI and naked links for back links. There are a handful of other things to consider and if you've got a good domain that isn't penalized, stick with it and make it into a "brand" rather than just a "keyword".

Thanks for the reply. I'm sure you get this but...

Just to be clear for any new replies or skim readers, best coffee makers and bestcoffeemakers.com was just for the example, that is not my domain or the keyword in question.

I've learned a lot from warrior forum recently. There are some expert content marketers here. I'm implementing the advice and I'm getting results, actual sales, (not in IM niche), which has really fired me up.

I didn't even know what LSI was until the other day when it was mentioned in another thread. I googled it and now using it correctly in my content. I had been over optimizing.

Keyword density was a concern also as each post is quite long and I felt like I was keyword stuffing during editing.

My biggest issue now is the content, because I'm paying quite a lot for it, I'm almost embarrassed to say the price per post in case I'm naively paying way too much but it is grade A by expert writers in the niche and traffic is building, I'm making sales, gaining momentum and there is so much I haven't done yet so it's looking really good.

Whenever I think of money now, all I want to know is... How many posts can I buy with that.

I'm currently trying to learn the best process for promoting each post once it is up. Some of my posts are getting search engine keyword traffic and making sales from zero promotion or backlinks, not in volume but enough to make me highly motivated to learn the most effective offsite promotion methods. I should point out the domain is over 8 years old if that makes a difference.

I'm currently losing money overall on this new authority site but not by much and the asset is growing. I can see it will be in the black soon enough then ongoing. Then I'll start the next.

Not even got around to list building yet but will set it up shortly. But then I'll need something of interest for the list. I don't just want to spam them with rubbish.

Thanks again for all the replies.

Yes, I realized you were only using coffeemakers as an example. I am happy you're having some success. Keep it up and stay focused. You're on your way.
