As promised... my SEO system for high ranking on google

A big thanks to everyone for their interest and patience with me on this one, I'm sorry I didnt get it posted within an hour as mentioned. I hope that the content makes up for it and this helps everyone with their SEO efforts. It's the system I use for all my sites now... enjoy!
  1. Register a keyword rich domain name.
So if you are targetting the choc chip cookie niche try to register chocolatechipcookies.com because the search engines will factor in your use of keywords in the domain name along with other things which we'll get into

  2. Write up your landing page.
Including compelling sales copy and good use of keywords and associated terms in the content. For me, the rule of thumb is to focus on what makes good copy rather than what the search engines would prefer. It's important to provide what the googlebot looks for, but making easy to read copy that excites people is the main goal.

  3. Optimise your html elements.
This means putting your keywords in the first instance on the page to start with and then...

    - in the H1 tag,
    - meta content for keyword and description tag
    - as alt tags on images,
    - through the copy in bold
    - sometimes in quotes.
    - once in italics
    - in a list of some kind <ul> or <ol>
    - in the image name of your product shots (choc-chip-cookie.jpg)
    - in a footer div so the terms are also the last instance on the page

Try to spread out your keywords too so they are not always together! So rather than just repeating 'choc chip cookies' over and over, you should make variations like 'the chocolate chips I bake into the cookies'.

  4. Publish the website and domain to your server.
Everyone has their own methods for this so no matter if you're using an FTP client to move flat files or installing a CMS like WordPress to store content in a database, just get it up to the web as soon as you have the completed product. Please dont be tempted to upload a half finished product though!!! Haste makes waste people so do all the steps to ensure you are indexed well the first time the googlebot visits

  5. Press Release
Write up a nice press release using the established format and methods then submit that to aggregation sites like prweb

  6. Site submission time!
Please don't use the addurl or submit link option with google, instead go behind the scenes to avoid the sanbox!

  7. Register for a google webmaster tools account
then add your URL to the interface to have it picked up straight away.

  8. Register for google analytics
then add the tracking code to your website following their instructions

  9. Login to your google account
then add the website into your google bookmarks as a new website

  10. Create a kabooble account
register your profile, add your wishlist and favourite brands then add the kaboodle bookmarklet to your favourites. Now visit your website and click on the add to kaboodle link in your favourites and leave details and some tags. Like to list it as a recent product purchased in the drop down rather than just a wishlist item

  11. Create a squidoo account
then setup a new lense using your keywords and a handful of sites, products and reviews on your niche. Be sure to add your site as the first entry so it sits nicely up the top!

  12. AboutUs.org
Simply put your domain name into the find bar at the top of the page and the site will create a fresh page based upon your site content. Then you can edit and fix up the page in wiki style.

  13. Write a unit of Google Knowledge
You should still be logged into your google account so simply visit knol.google.com and then write a knol. Use a nice descriptive paragraph or two that will get people interested without giving too much away or sounding like a huge sales pitch. Just get some interest so they want to click through to your website

  14. Jaiku.com
it's a bit like twitter, in that it's a microblogging website. Grab yourself an account, setup your profile then start making friends and making little posts about the various pages and features of your website

  15. Video marketing
Create a few short videos, either using your webcam to make mini interviews/videologs explaining your website benefits or perhaps some little camtasia and powerpoint presentation combinations.

  16. Upload your video to youtube.com channel
then create a nice little description in the profile box making sure you include lots of keywords and the URL to your actual domain. You can also edit little comments into the video timeline so make a few subtle titles but dont get in the way of the video content as that is just annoying to the viewer

  17. tubemogul.com
setup a new client account then submit your youtube videos

  18. Video Post Robot
setup a new client account then submit your youtube videos

  19. Feedburner
Submit your rss feed from the youtube channel you setup, along with the feed from your site if using wordpress or anything else that spits out a feed of your content

  20. Feedagg
Submit your rss feed from the youtube channel you setup, along with the feed from your site if using wordpress or anything else that spits out a feed of your content

  21. Time to get blogging!
Now you can blog about your new site, making lots of glowing recommendations along with deep links at the start and end of the post using services like...

    - facebook
    - myspace
    - twitter
    - blogger
    - etc

  22. Article marketing
Either write up some articles from scratch, grab some PLR content or use copy from your website in a brief format that doesnt give too much away. Again, you want to atrract attention, get interest, build some desire then encoourage them to take action and visit your website. Then you can use rewritting tools to create variations of your articles or just do them yourself mixing up the format while keeping things readable. Now you can upload to places like...

    - ezinearticles
    - scribd
    - goarticles
    - articlebase
    - article directories
    - article submission services
    - etc etc

  23. Social bookmarking time
There are way too many social bookmarking sites to list here, plus many tools to automate the process (senuke, socialmarker, bookmarkingdemon) so if you're not up to speed yet do some research in this area as it will pay off. A few worth mentioning based upon their connections with google and the sheer amount of sites they will spread to are...

    - Propeller.com
    - Slashdot.org
    - Digg.com
    - Technorati.com
    - Del.icio.us
    - Twitter.com
    - Reddit.com
    - Tagza.com
    - Fark.com
    - Newsvine.com
    - swik.net
    - Connotea.org
    - Links Marker
    - Sphinn.com
    - Blinklist.com
    - Faves.com
    - Indianpad.com
    - Plugim.com
    - Myjeeves.ask.com
    - Buddy Marks
    - Connectedy
    - MyLinkVault
    - Google Bookmarks

  24. SEO friendly directories
I wouldnt bother taking the time to find and submit yourself, find a submission service and outsource to them by buying $50 worth of links

  25. High PR dofollow backlinks
The best value for money in this area comes from Paul and Angela! Their packets are full of great links and instructions that take the hard work out of finding backlinks. Simply create accounts and profiles at the sites in the packets then setup a nice profile with 1 or 2 weblinks to your website. Do not go crazy and be tempted to add heaps of domains to your profile without any content or contribution to the community you've joined. If you're going to take the time to do this, do it the right and ethical way.

Everyone has their own opinion on the SEO subject, but quality backlinks are by far the most important and valuable resource for getting your site ranking high in the search results! Content and domain name are just the start, from there you need to have high pagerank websites linking to your using your keywords.
You can use as much or as little of this system as you want, depending on your time available. Personally, I like to use as many online tools as possible so that by submitting to one site you ensure the link goes out to thousands of places autmatically. Leverage is the big thing with my business model! I do the research up front so I can minimise the amount of effort involved down the track. A stitch in time saves nine, as our mothers used to say

I hope you enjoy the content, if you have any particular questions then feel free to contact me at anytime.

Thanks, Nick. Very informative post, and worth waiting for.

I do have a question. You said in the earlier thread that you spent 30 - 40 minutes getting your new site ranked. Your list looks as if it would take much longer than that to complete, especially when you include content creation for the off-site sites. Which steps did you skip or short-cut? Which ones do you find give the most leverage, the most result for time spent?

    Thanks.

      Steve

Thanks for your feedback mate and I'm glad you asked actually. There is a short cut method that I use, but I wanted to post the entire system for people that want to learn the overall process.

The 30-40 minutes I spent on the adwords course site I mentioned pertains to submission, not the actual setup.

So I just leverage my time by doing:

      * google webmaster tools & analytics
      * social bookmarking
      * directory submission (outsourced)
      * high pagerank backlinks (outsourced)

Those are enough to ensure high ranking, the other steps are mostly about generating traffic but it's all related to the same process of promotion and marketing. Let me know if there is anything else Steve, I'm here to help

Wow great thanks! I'm sure most of us knew most if not all of it, at least in bits and pieces. And how many of us actually did this? And now many of us will do it in the future now?

1 Question Nicholas. How about a time frame?

For example, Kaboodle on day 2, article marketing on day 5, SBM on day 7 etc? If you can mention that too, greatly appreciated.
    Cheers!
    Chucky

Every person and project will have a different time frame. The more you do these things, the easier they become. What takes a full day to do the first time may only take an hour the fifth time.

What's important is the order of operations here. Take this list, do step one, then step two, etc. Make your own timeline!

This is the Internet! Time is a very relative thing here.

Thanks Nicholas! I was thinking as I read your post, and echoed by Chucky, that the gold here is in the way that you condensed what many Warriors already know in bits and pieces into a blueprint of sorts.

I'd also be interested to hear if you have some sort of timeline that you use to make things look more natural and avoid sandboxing.

You could make this much simpler.

      Analyse compeition
Write content (with keywords - never mind density)
Get backlinks. (blog comments, High PR links)

There is no sandboxing with this method Pat, you go straight into the google index within a few hours. Avoid the publicly advertised channels for site submission, as doing the whole 'add url' and 'submit your site' option is what gets you into the sandbox.

that little nugget will save you months of time waiting to see results

Thank you for saying this explicitly. Seems innocuous, but I submitted my blog months ago and it still isn't ranked for any of my target keywords. I moved my blog to wordpress and it ranked in top 100 after a little backlink building within a week or so. It is ridiculous that Google does this the well-meaning people, there must be a reason for it but I don't know what that is.

I don't oftentimes say this, but good job on the informative, content-rich post. This could easily turn into a 101 guide.

    Your 7th step:

Register for a google webmaster tools account

Can be achieved in another way. I've done it many times. Browse the pages you want indexed with a browser that has the Google toolbar installed, with reporting turned on. The toolbar reports back to Google. If the page you're viewing isn't in their index yet it is added to the crawl list.

I am sorry but those are only enough for ranking under very low competitive keywords...and usually the results dont stay long unless no one is trying to compete with you...

And I don't think they only took you 30 minutes for a 25 item list

1 min+ to finish 1 item?? ..nice work giving people false hopes
He covered he outsourced didn't he? pretty sure he has later in the thread

And also nice work for trying to promote what you are trying to promote under

The only good advice are the keywords-domains, Optimise your html elements and High PR dofollow backlinks ...they work extremely well and are the "true-high ranking method" that will take you 30 minutes to complete..
Rubbish. That's the ONLY good advice?

      Lets run through them

      1) Keyword name - helps
      2) write landing page - obvious but true
      3) optimize html - useful list on how to do that plus good tip in its own right
      4) publish site and domain - ok again obvious but true
      5) Press release - useful for backlinks, traffic and generating intrest - good tips
      6) submission - actually not much here
      7) webmaster tools account - I always find them useful
      8) google analytics - also useful
      9) google bookmarking - bound to help with indexing
      10) kaboodle - good tip
      11) create a squidoo account - again useful for backlinks and traffic driving
      12) aboutus.org - more backlinks, more ability to drive traffic and keywords
      13) google knol - more backlinks, more traffic driving
      14) jaiku. Not sure about this one if its as time intensive as twitter its probably not worth it, but dependson what you are doing. not tried so don't know
15 - 18) video marketing and places to do it. Powerful traffic driving tool, more backlinks
19-20)RSS submission - Backlinks and quick crawling
      21) blogging - more backlinks, more places to get them, more traffic driving
      22) articles - even more backlinks, more traffic driving
      23) social bookmarking - guess what, even more backlinks!
      24) directories - guess what, more backlinks again
      25) High PR backlinks - yes a follow to his service but also right

So tell me, what in there do you disagree with? A list of ways he builds backlinks and drives traffic seems fair and useful. I know I would benefit from approaching my own SEO in such a structured manner

Thanks for the support mate. We're always going to have those know-it-all people on here who think they are the best at EVERYTHING and have nothing better to do but leave negative comments to show how superior they are. My advice to them "if you're doing something better than me that works then more power to you, why not share it with the community rather than trying to make yourself feel smart with elitist banter (which nobody actually listens to anyhow)"

It's just part of being involved with online forums I guess John... I wouldnt waste my time getting into a debate with them over it buddy, as you know what they say about arguing with people on the internet!

For number 24. SEO friendly directories: Are there at least two that you could recommend please? I know I could google them, but i'd rather go with whats recommended.

A recent set of test that I ran against two domain I launched, shows quality backlinks including relevant anchor texts, do have a significantly larger impact than anything else I could do for on-site SEO.

Good and simple guide....I think it always comes down to what you are marketing.

Most people here I think are marketing digital products or adsense websites so alot of these are really necessary. I try to focus more on real world businesses (hotels, stores, consultants) so then my focus is slightly different.

Not to be a jerk, but Angela and Paul's links are not "high PR dofollow backlinks". They are profile links on "high PR sites", but the profile pages you put your links on have "no PR at all". I get it, you want to sell your service. It's all good. The links do work for the most part, I'm not complaining about that. I just don't see the need for the constant misdirection from Angela and Paul on this issue.

The links work ok when your profile doesn't get deleted by a moderator (even with just one link), that's not the problem. I probably need to say it a third time: The links work fine. BUT.... I just don't like marketers who market a service to other marketers under false pretenses. It's extra slimy. (I really love the fact that Angela says she makes her living from IM, but she's an assistant manager for a Wendy's in Washington state... hmmm...)

I'm not trying to be a jerk, the rest of your info is top notch for beginners and intermediate folks. Thanks!

.... let the flames begin, I'll be in the shower.

Good solid starting point advice from the OP. I would just query one part - keyword stuffing in your page footer - ouch.

I'd second that. Doing all those on page SEO items on the same page screams to google, "I'm trying a fast one" There was a time and place that worked well, today that has slipped into over optimization.

To summarize the whole post in two items:
          1. On page/site SEO
          2. Create backlinks

It's been said on page counts for 10 percent and the back links 90 percent. That's about how the breakdown was in the post. 10 percent of the work was the onsite/onpage stuff and the other 90 was getting links.

That also tells you why you should just choose the simplest most maintainable platform for you and not be swayed by what's fashionable because the platform falls in your 10 percent time expenditure.

Actually thats false but a common error. PR juice runs through a site dividing and degrading according to an algorythm. ANY system that uses divsion will result in a fraction. Even though a pagerank tool may show zero it does not mean that the actual PR is exactly zero or "no PR atall". The tool shows a zero until its at a full 1, 2 etc. Getting a link on a high PR site means that the site has strong link juice running through it. the closer that link is to the High PR page the greater the chances that PR juice will flow to it. Also depends on the number of links on the site which is why the holy grail is finding sites that are little used. Less links more juice.

Second a profile page nowadays can include the ability to blog and write articles as well and on some sites that gives you the potential of being actually ON the home page for those that publish the articles there. Its temporary but long enough to develop links and its own PR.

I just don't like marketers who market a service to other marketers under false pretenses. It's extra slimy.

You see things differenly that hardly makes Paul or Angela slimy. I've seen good evidence that among one of the factors that Google uses for serps is the overall authority of a site. The higher the PR the greater the possibility that Google sees the link as having higher authority. Of course people will come rush in to say thats not how google works as if they actually have a copy of the 200 or so factors that Google looks at but the truth is that too many people have tested these links and they work. So at some point you have to ask yourself why do they work where linking from a number of personal zero any page site don't. Can anyone prove it one way or the other? Want to break into Google's labs? It works. Period. Thats what matters.

(I really love the fact that Angela says she makes her living from IM, but she's an assistant manager for a Wendy's in Washington state... hmmm...)
Which has nothing to do with anything. Last I heard her husband had some medical issues. People have all kinds of reasons for holding jobs - major medical being just one. She likes it? So what? lets not take personal swipes. We can just discuss the issues.

    Lovely job.

However, I noticed that you do not have h2 or h3 tags and you use quotes instead of underlining the keyword. Why is that?

I find it a good idea to have two links on the page as well. An internal link and a external link. It's looks good in the eyes of the search engines if you show that you are sharing info as well.

Also, In his book SEO Secrets, Danny Dover says "Meta Keywords are obsolete"

Good information for beginners, though I have to disagree with Angela / Paul style links having any real value these days. I know plenty will disagree with me.
