Why Wordpress tags are Ranking in Goolge instead of Posts

I have this one year old wordpress blog.It ranks in google for some keywords but the Problem is only tag links are showing in the search results.

For example if i search 'How to write a Resume' my site page xxxx.com/tag/how-to-write-a-resume/ is ranking

I want the direct link to my post xxxx.com/writing/how-to-write-a-resume to appear in the search results.

I know i can acheive this by installing SEO plugins like yoast and all but the question is Should I?

Why is google ranking my Tag page.Is there a natural REASON?
In case i make the Tags NOT Rank with the SEO Plugins will my Direct links to Post automatically show in the Google rankings?I am afraid of the situation where i lose the Tag rankings and my direct links to the Posts not appearing in the search results.

    Its just like that man, same thing happened to me early on.

    You might want to remove the tag links under your posts. That is creating a lot of internal links pointing to the tag page which might be naturally ranking those pages up more. You might also want to try generally adding more links on your site to those specific pages you want ranked, so Google sees those are the priority posts.

    Hi, @ebooksmaster I have to understand your problem. First of to remove the tag from your link, you have to change your permalink settings.After changing permalink, Now you have to remove link by using google search console tools. After removing, Google will reindex all existing link.

    you can stop crawling your Tags with yoast seo plugin wordpress. it will more benefit for your site from duplication issues.

    So you are all suggesting to remove my tags from my old posts and stop creating new Tags when i create new posts?
    I thought if i use Tags there is a SEO advantage,Right? Should i lose that advantage?
