There are tons of people out there trying to get more clicks to their adsense.

Most of them are doing this just by trying to get more traffic to their pages, but what if you just made your pages more effective at getting clicks? Traffic is not the only answer to this problem!

So.. I present to you, what I call "adsense traps".

FUN!!!

What's an "adsense trap"?

Well.. it's pretty simple really. It's when you design a page so that the user has no choice but to click on one of the ads to find out more information, because the page they ended up on isn't cutting it.

Here's how I did it for my golf club reviews site:

I had pages full of content reviewing certain clubs, giving the user almost all the information they needed on my page. This gives them zero reason to click on any ads looking for anything else. So I changed this by changing my full reviews to just a brief summary with a "click here to read more" link at the bottom of each post. All this link did was bring them BACK to the post they wanted to read more about.

I changed my adsense locations from sidescraper to 1 block under most recent post and tried to keep each page with 1 post on that particular club. This resulted in my adsense showing all related text ads for those clubs also. They did better than average because they mostly lead to review type landing pages for the clubs on my pages.

My CTR increased by about 10% over a week the first time I tried this. I think the user gets so frustrated trying to read more, or think the site is broken so they click on the relevant text ads that are promising what your site did.

There are many other ways to trap the user for various niches. I showed this technique to one of my friends who runs a trial software download site and would just create pages saying they can download the software there, but when they clicked on "Download Now" it just refreshed the page. The ads adsense were showing were the actual software developers ads, resulting in a decent CTR since they can get the free trial straight from the source.

I'm sure you guys can think of much better and creative ways to use this

While your idea of not giving a visitor much more than necessary other than ad clicks, you need to be very careful with this, especially recommending that others do this.

A manual review of a site as above will almost certainly get the URL banned from Adsense, and possibly worse.

If you're planning on Adsense being a long-term sustainable opportunity for you, you don't want to 'skirt the edges' trying to game extra clicks.
