Hey!

I wanted to know if anybody here uses any Virtual Assistant service to get manual SEO tasks done? By Manual tasks i mean things like doing web research and compiling a list of potential link sources or manually creating links on a list of websites you acquired or finding email ids of a a list of people?

If yes, how has your experience been with using such services? Also, any recommendations?

We have not used a VA for finding link opportunities, specifically, but we do use a VA to find opportunities on HARO that we can contribute to (which almost always leads to a link).

We have also used VAs for finding brand mentions of our site (which we try to convert into a link) and for following relevant forums and blogs and notifying us when something is being discussed that we can contribute to.

As long a you train them properly, you can get VAs to do all sorts of time saving things, which frees up your time to do things that make a real difference.

The way I see it is, you can babysit a VA or just do the work yourself. The real question is, are you saving time?

I prefer to think of it as TRAINING a VA to do something rather simple. I save about two hours per day, which may not seem like much to some people, but I guess it all depends on what dollar value you place on your time. If you feel your time is worth less than what you are paying a VA, that's another thing.

        Sure, training, babysitting, whatever...

Either way there's a lot of hand holding and monitoring work going on. I'd be surprised If it didn't cost you more time.

Like I said before, it all comes down to what your own time is worth to you. I know mine is worth ten times what I pay a VA. It took about fifteen minutes of my time to train someone to do what took me two hours per day to do. I have a spreadsheet that the VA fills out every day, showing what things they have done. My "babysitting" consists of checking that spreadsheet once per week to make sure things are still being done correctly (total time of "babysitting" - 5 minutes per week). After a period of time, I'll move my "babysitting" checks to every other week and then later, once per month.

The best part of all is that the VA is doing a WAY better job, which has resulted in far more exposure and backlinks, than when I was doing it. Admittedly, I just didn't have the time and would blow things off when I had other more pressing things to do.

Really, a lot of this comes down to the person you choose. In my case, I chose someone who I had worked with in the past that had shown that they were very competent and reliable. You may have to go through a few people until you can find the right one. Then, use that person for more and more things.

I like Corey's idea of creating a video of the steps someone needs to take to do the job correctly (screen recording software would do the trick for most things). That way, if one person doesn't work out, you can train the next person with the same video - zero training time lost. I also like the idea of using a relative, friend or relative/friend of a friend who needs a little extra pocket money. Might as well hep out people you know. The only downside to that is when the person does not work out and feelings get hurt.

I'm using a VA right now and I did some mistakes while trying to find one,
so here's what to watch for when you're about to trust someone:

    1. Make sure he's got a portfolio a positive one.
    2. Ask a family member and respect him by paying properly. Why not help your little cousin for example, nowadays little guys can grasp tech-savvy stuff easier! And he'd be happy to work for you, so he can get ps4 games and stuff. I know I'd be happy!
    3. If you can't be there to teach him what to do, create a video using a recorder and explain what to do EXACTLY. Explaining in text can be dangerous. Show the steps he's got to do in video.

Just out of curiosity, how much are you paying?

That sounds like an amazing idea! I am going to do this from next time!

I recently started using this service called HelpTap, they charge 20c/min. Tried time out for a few simple tasks, the experience so far has been good.

I saved a lot of time by hiring a VA. He shared my videos on different video channels, make powerpoint presentation, sorted different kinds of research file and share my content to social medias also other different channels. That saved my 4 or 5 precious hour a day.

I usually find it on fiverr, but you have to be careful, pay attention to feedback, some people without any feedback might accept work that they can't finish ... it's best to work with those who care about their reputation, a lot depends on their qualifications - those without experience can't finish work well

There are many freelancers on fiverr.com who are available as a VA. You can contact them after checking their experiences and gig offers. You don't have to buy a gig immadiately.

If we borrow metaphors from athletics then SEO is not a 100-meter race, it’s a marathon, in which you have to run many miles, and to succeed in which you only do not need a lot of practice, but a lot of stamina as well. Along with that you need surgical precision in executing various search engine optimization tasks.
