I'd do a keyword analysis with Google too - it's super quick and it usually provides some fairly good options

The best keywords for your blog site is depend on your target field.
What kind of blog do you have?
What kind of information do you offer?

Keyword planner is a gret tool to start with and it can provide you with a all keywords for your website, but from that list you need to analyze on the main keywords you should focus for your website.

    1. set your target location and audience
    2. scrutinize you main focus keywords and it's allied ones
    3. you don't need to put a backlink to every word, but you need to set campaigns for each one of them and work on content marketing around the long tail keywords

    Hope it helps!

    Developing an SEO Keyword Strategy
Historically, with a little bit of money and a willingness to get crafty, companies
could easily get to the top of search engines. Today, Google’s ranking algorithms are
smarter and black hat techniques, like link buying and keyword stuffing, don't cut it.
Worse, if you're caught using those, your website could be penalized severely.
In 2011, Google drew a clear line in the sand when they released an update called
Panda where lower-quality, spammy looking websites lost rankings and higherquality websites gained higher rankings. This eBook contains some strategies that
you can use with your keywords to improve your website's optimization, increasing
your contents' value for search engines, as well as users.

your contents' value for search engines, as well as users.
      Create a List of Keywords
When you're creating a keyword strategy, you're looking for keywords that are going to attract customers who are looking for your services and are already, or are close to being, in a purchasing frame of mind.
So how do you come up with a list of keywords?
Start by picturing your ideal customer. What words would they use to search for your
      company online?
The words that immediately come to mind are probably your main services. Let's say you have a jewelry store for the purposes of this example.
You're probably thinking words like gold, diamond rings, or silver chain.
While not terrible, those keywords are going to be hard to gain traction on because they are general and
are often searched. Keywords that might provide faster traction are based on geographic location, such
as "Atlanta jewelry store." Very specific long tail keywords can provide a bump in rankings, too. Since
they aren't as general, they might not be as many competitors optimizing for them.
When building your keyword list, consider the
      following:
      ● Is this keyword relevant to your company and the content on your website?
      ● After searching for the keyword and landing on your website, will the user find what they're looking for?
      ● Is this search likely to turn into a sale?
If you can say "yes" to each of those questions, then you're on the right track.

      Research your Keywords
After coming up with a list of keywords you want to use for your SEO strategy, research them using a keyword tracking tool such as the Google Keyword tool. Simply enter your chosen keywords into the blank space provided and Google will pull up the popularity of these keywords as well as the level of competition. Keep in mind that if you decide to go with a more competitive keyword, your page will take longer to move up in a search engine.
You can also leverage what other companies are doing to inform your strategy. Search for your keywords and see who's ranking for them now. What tactics are they using?

Google keyword tool is a good gool, but you'd better focus on creating valuable content rather than promoting and building backlinks.
    Here is my experience.
When I write a blog post, I don't think too much about SEO. Because I know that my main traffic source is my email list. My subscribers don't care whether my title is optimized for SEO or not.
So, I just type one sentence - and this is the main idea of my blog.
When the blog post is written, I go to Google Keyword Tool, keywordtool.io and try to optimized it a bit.
